We all talk about how great the methods we use are....  I agree some customers may pay more or less for different methods...

I here about the $700 dollar homes... and the .40 per/sq st commercial jobs...

What everyone fails to realize is that you have to look at it from the customers point of view... why pay these high prices for something that only going to get dirty again..

No matter how good you clean it....it will get dirty...

Thats why some opt for the lower prices...

If I'm a Commercial office owner... .20 cents compared to .40 cents for something thats just going to get dirty again in a few months..

what do you think I'd do???

Mr. Steamer:  The only time method comes into to play is if the person calling has had a bad experience.  Then the explanation that it may not be the method but the operator.  I have found that people who just want to know how much to clean it  and not how you are going to clean it, have just been told by everyone else their method it the only method that can clean their carpets.  All they want is clean carpets for a fair price.  Now it has become rocket science and they are confused.  I know to bid on our county work they specify tm only to bid.Guitar

I think the customer's confidence in your abilities, is often more
important than the method you use.

When I started 23 years ago I had a portable that looked like a large
coffee maker from the Lutheran Church . we used hot water that I heated
in a pail and warmed up 5 gallons at a time . I believed in myself and
what I knew I could do with that portable and it showed. The customer
( A Dirty Restaurant ) was confident That I could do better than the last
guy.

I spent a great deal of effort proving that I was willing to do better work.
and 23 years later I clean this restaurant monthly. ( Now with my Butler)
But the confidence is still there. Method is second ! We spend to much
time cutting others methods down . be open to evaluate and then make
an informed decision. ( Just My Opinion )

For the customer it's all about the price.... The price is the maker breaker

MOst of our customers are referrals, they don't even ASK price, they KNOW that we are always .30 a square foot, same price for everyone.

You have to understand, I see customers often from the OPPOSITE side or view than you, MOST CLEANERS are HWE, once they SEE and FEEL the difference, price is seldom a concern after that.

100 Pads? Yikes that would be something, We usually go throug about 50 for a WHOLE day.

Converting HWE customer to VLM customers for 30 Years!

I agree Padman, for some of us the customers we have very seldom ask
price, but that doesn't happen your first few years of business usually.

I've found the higher my prices go the less people ask. We get better
clientle and less complaining as our prices have gone up. . ( also Doug
I need to pay for my Butler.... and Maid )

I tell people right up front , " If your looking for the cheapest cleaner in
town , I'm not going to be in the market , but if you want someone with
23 years of experience that is on every job we can stop by and give you
an idea what we can do for you. 95 % of the time I can get pretty close
over the phone. Most of the time they accept a phone bid and we
schedule the cleaning. The others we gladly lose!
