Most soil is acidic.
But an acid stain?? One that won't come out?? What kind of stain is that? Edited by LilNiteRidrhood - 30/August/2007 at 8:25pm |

Jeff Cross' guide says to remove acid stains with alkaline and alkaline with acid. This tannin issue appears to be the exception.

I don't know of this rule which you are talking about. Rather I hear and have seen that most strong acids have a capability of removing colour in one way or another.

I understand acid removes tannin. I just don't understand why. It seems to go against the general rule of removing an acid stain with an alkaline detergent. |

Makes sense. Jeff Cross e-mailed me and said the same thing. He also asked if Kenny is in jail yet. |

There are certain rules of thumb that can be followed when in doubt.
However you should try removing tannin stains (acid) with a tannin stain remover (acid). I was told by a large company here in Toronto they have cases of tannin remover on their floor and it will never be used. Most use reducers on the furniture and oxidizers on synthetic carpet. New generation of all natural cleaner coming. It is called an oxidizing prespray. But there will be no peroxide in the product. |
