tried something different

i normally use a pre spray first(really) most of the areas.not too much.

then i use point blue(soap) to extract.

yesterday, i just used my soap w/no prespray.but i used my hole tank of water.maybe 10 gallons for three rooms.much more water than normal.it took about four hours to dry.normally about two maybe.

well its only been one day, cant say how resoiling will be.but the carpets seem softer, not stiff.like other times.look good.i did have some stains that always seem to come back.so ill let you know.some people just prespray then rinse w/water.

so i guess when i pre spray i didnt use enough water and soap to extract???????????

whats the deal???is that too much water?what makes the carpet stiff?

anything else to try???

When applying a pre spray you must apply enought to emulsify the soil. to little and you are wasteing your time.  Too mush and you risk not rinsing and getting it all out of the carpet  that is what makes your choice of sprayer very important along with mixing the chems properly. This is where experience comes in.  Putting the cleaner threw the machine allows for no dwell time and could mean overwetting heavily soiled ares. You must check your cleaner to make sure it dries to a chrystal if you are not rinsing. Put some on a saucer and see weather it dries to a chrystal or a sludge.  I guess I have probably wasted your time. someone who knows may be able to help you.Guitar

Check with your supplier. I prefer Hydyo Force sprayers some don't, some use old pepsi sprayers. Your preference.Guitar

I like the hydro force because it's easy...just hook it up and spray...and also it allows you to put down the pre-spray HOT...

OK My 2 cents

1) Clean with BOTH a prespray and a good emulsifier.

2) Prespray only the traffic areas.(They used to call it traffic lane cleaner for a reason.)If you're using a decent emulsifier, it will clean effectivly in non traffic areas.

3) For heavily soiled carpets, use some form of agitation after prespraying.

4) Here I go, argueing with Rick again- Prespray temp doesn't matter a whit. It won't emusify any better as it has long since cooled down by the time you're cleaning and heat without the other 3 pieces of the pie won't do anything.

5) Stiffness can be corrected with an acid overspray or acid rinse. Just remember the acids will negate cleaning power as it will nuetralize your detergents.

Certified to be certifiable.

willie...true it will cool down, however you will get better chemical action if it is put down hot...heat excellerates chemical action...any chemical action, it does not matter, however if it cools before extraction, because the emulisifaction should have already taken place and the grease and soil will be held in suspension...provided you don't wait too long and it starts to dry and the water evaporates leaving a thick slurry...but that shouldn't be a problem unless you pre spray and wait a day or two to extract...

not tryin to start an arguement, but I noticed that you said you used a pre spray and an emulsifier...I thought all pre sprays were emulsifiers...except enzyme pre sprays, of course..am I wrong on this?...

I read you post on the other boards. I believe you were told to pre spray using a pre spray. I have no idea what you put threw your machine. some use a rince other don't it is your preference. You cannot get dwell time putting cleaner threw your machine unless you turn off your vac and flood?? If you are prespraying why are you still running a cleaning chem threw you machine? This is pretty basic suff. Before I would hire someone who puts the cleaner threw the machine I would rent one and get the same results.  It is not the 80 or 90% of the cleaning solutiion you get back that is the problem it is the 10 or 20% you leave behind that causes rapid resoiling, carpet stiffness and a host of other  problems.  Goog luck how ever you plan to clean.  Just don't try to put words in my mouth.  If you want to learn then ask. Don't try and bull$hit me. I have been around the block a couple of times.Guitar
