Why would anybody want their carpets cleaned on a long week end. We have lost our priorities. Every body should go away or stay home with the family and have a good time before school starts and life goes to second speed and the turmoil starts.

Most long weekends to me are a drag: no money! I can usually bump up my rate for a long weekend anyway, so it's GREAT money. I've got no problem with working the weekday of a long weekend (I never work Sundays), unless it's ANZAC day. It's the Aussie version of Memorial Day. I don't know what the Canadian equivalent is. Working that day is just plain disrespectful. I'll work Queen's Birthday or whatever without thinking twice about it. I catch up w/ friends when I want, as many of them are self employed & I see my family more now that I'm self employed then I ever did working behind a desk. My priorities ARE family: that's one reason I went out on my own. Just my $0.02 - Allen |

Allen: How the hell do you bump up your rates for the long weekend?? If I am not mistaked you are still in the service business. Maybe down under that is 9 to 5 five days a week?

Good point Allen I never looked at it that way and that's because I work the traditional 5day week and to me it is important when I have an extra day off to try to spend it with my family. Thanks for the enlightening. I'm sitting here this morning on my holiday typing to you guys in this very peaceful environment with my music blaring on my head phones and my family is fast asleep. I am not going to wake them with yelling get up it's time to start moving and watch the hustle and bustle begin. Who benefits from this probably me but I will look like the good guy and hence it is going to be a great day. |

Allen: "So, when were you looking at getting this done?" Customer: "We're painting on the Saturday and Sunday, so could you do it on the long weekend Monday while all the furniture is out?" Allen: (to self) "Cha-CHING! goes the register" Allen: (to customer) "Sure... Monday's fine" Sometimes the long weekend Friday or Monday is the only time they have avaliable. Most people that I've delt with don't want carpet cleaning done after they've been at work all day. That's when they want to sit down with a glass of Chardonnay and a meal. Especially 2-income houses. I don't work 9-5 M-F. I've had enough of that for a while. -Allen Edited by surroundings |
