Steamin... you don't have a helper or back up guy???? You got to get someone and go with them... even if your just going to sit in the van... The customers will appreciate your commitment.... I know how you feel...I work in pain a lot of times, because my brother is the only one I trust. If he's too busy or not available I take two advil and head out |

Adwa: Generally when you step into the lunney bin, you must be prepared to blend in with the rest of the inmates there so as to not stand out from the group too much. Every once in a while, I actually forget where I am and give an answer that I would on the outside.

Andy why would you pay into WCB and not collect?? that is the friggin purpose. WCB in B.C. is actually fairly accommodating towards their premium assessments. |

well I AM friends with most of the cleaners in town
very close with 2 of them because I send them flood work and I worked for one of them
I do have insurance, and WCB but would rather not make a claim with WCB. Was thinking of hiring someone anyways but it's kinda tough to train with me being a gibble |

I have a very unusual circumstance in that i get along with a few of my
competitors. One helped in the middle of a job when my van broke down. and when he has overage and can't possible get to it he refers me and i do likewise. We advise the customer to please call their main cleaner back next time as we are doing this as a favor to each other. Short of that you have to buy some time from your loyal customers or hire a person temporarily . I had a walking cast on for 6 weeks and just moved hosed etc. for my worker he had to do most of the work. I measured , did the raking and the billing out. It's not easy I'm sure. If I were in your area I'd be helping you... but I'm Not. Anybody else from the board close enough to help ????? Good Luck Gordie Edited by danmarck82 |

Okay Andy. The best thing to do is carry disability insurance, like I do. This can be purchased so that you receive 60% of your average weekly wage that you have been making the last year.As long as that has been a good one, that is your best bet. If you do not qualify for this type of insurance, or if your wages were lower that year, the next best thing to do is buy direct from WCB. More of a paperwork hassle if you are injured than the first choice, but sometimes that is all you can get. None of this helps now, if you are injured however.
For the here and now situation, I would make sure you have at least 2 companies ready to subcontract your work for you. If you charge average rates, this should be possible at about 50% of the gross invoice amount. Have a few magnetic signs made up with the name of your company on them. Have your contractor use them on any unlettered vans they may have. That is best. Otherwise, you may have to accept lettered vans with a different company name do the work for you. The longer term answer is to always have at least 2 TMs with 1 or more employees working for you. That way, your health does not determine what gets cleaned.More headaches to be sure, but you grow this way and stay in business regardless of your state of health.
Sorry that this happened to you.
