I've been cleaning for 3+ years so I consider myself a newbie, and I was hoping to get some feedback from anyone about a job I recently finished.
VCT flooring right at 1,000 sq ft.  I estimated about 4 hours worth of work that would have included stripping, water mopping twice, allowing floor to dry, two coats of sealer and three coats of polish.
I was wrong.
21 hours later (broken up into 4 days) me and my helper finished.
As we would strip, the old wax would sludge.  I actually mean, turn grey, then black, and there would still be wax on the floor.  I've used the same stripper product for the last 3 years and I have never had this much trouble.  Granted, the floors had been neglected and now this resturant had a new owner that wanted "new looking" floors.  We stripped with two machines and went through 8 stripping pads and used floor scrappers to peel the wax off this floor.  We "quit" the job at least 10 times in our heads as we continued to work, but it really threw us for a loop...and yes I do have pictures if anyone would like to see the before, during, and after photos.
I saw on JonDon's site they had a stripper called melt down that claims you don't need a machine to remove old burnished wax.  I ordered a gallon to test and I'll let you know what I find out if anyone is intrested.

You were trying to strip Satan's Sealer (not the real name), a semi permanent sealer from SC Johnson that was probably topped with 12-20 coats of finish that had been burnished over and over and over.

For this job you require a propane stipping machine, some kick-ass stripper, 3M High Productivity stripping pads, major dwell time and the patience of Mr. Miyagi.
