Soil lint green....... I've been saying what you've been saying since I started posting here only to be shot down by the T.M. guys. Your exactly right . Who needs 5... 6... or 700 cfms or 1000 psi to do residential carpet. maybe in an industrial envirement O.K. I think there may be a perception by some that a porty won't do as well of a job so I disguise my porty on a van and run from a generator and the custy knows no differance and their always happy. Give them the service they want and expect and you have a customer for a long time. Go ahead newbies out there and buy your T.M but you won't get any more money from a custy than what your competitors in your area are charging, the custy doesn't care if your $20,000 dollars in debt, you have to compete with the porty guy with no debt who's charging $25.00/room or less. Just remember your in this to make money not to show off your super duper sucking fire breathing machine to other carpet cleaners and say I have the best because the consumer don't care. moneys where it's at.

You are right, watchman. Portys rule, TM drool and I am so glad when Sundays come so I can relax like this and p!$$ off the TM guys desperate for the old days when everyone had money to burn. We have nothing to apologize for and like you say we have no competition. Although the "bigger is better" guys would like to think they can compete.
Keeping busy for this time of year, Watchman? |

No.....my choice. I operate 9-10 months of the year. last job dec. 22. Because I operate my porty like a TM. I'd have to heat my van with a heater 24 hrs a day. Van won't fit in garage. Many of my customers know this and I inform them they have to get cleaning done before christmas or wait till approx. march, probably april this year because the weather isn't cooperating this year. Just got another dump of snow yesterday(26"). Not everyone is in my situation but my wife makes way more than myself so at 51 I can say I'm semi retired. I only do 4 Jobs/day Max. Out by 9am home by dinner. theres no life like it!!

Soil Lint Green sorry but think you are a little bit deliriously. I think John had a good question have you ever used a good TM? If the answer is not there is no point in going on with the conversation. Answer me this why would Sears use a TM's if a porty did as good of job. After all they are a public company, I'm sure the board and share holders would be pissed if they could of just invested in just a porty and not the TM. Let me see how many big companies I can think of that use only a porty... hmm... can't think of one. I guess you should share with them that they have it all wrong and should sell there TM and use just there portables. I can keep going. Not trying to hurt you ego just trying to get some facts in you head. What cleans better warm water or hot water? Why do you guys look for the porty with the highest lift and CFM's if suction didn't matter? Why use a booster, again if suction does not matter? You stated that TM operators clean with a 1000psi. Who cleans at that, are you nuts? You are only as good as you weakest link, your portable, and I'm sure some companies weak link is the operator. Think of it like this if you put the best race car drive in a Honda civic and told him he had to race in the Indy 500. He would think you are nuts but you would say he still has a chance to win because its not how powerful his car is. It has EVERY think to do with it. Just like the equipment we use as carpet cleaners it has a big part to do with it. No offense but you sound like the guy preaching the false religion. Most guys that use a TM started off with a portable, if TM's sucked they would go back to a portable, but it is the other way around people with portables go to TM's. Unless you have owned one I would try one out. I guarantee that if you started with a TM and thats all you used and some one said you now have to clean with a portable, your religion would now think the portable is the devil.

Watchman why not just use a compressor to blow out the portable and skip on heating the van? What I use to do.

I think soil has a good point. I guess everyone but the TM guys know how much power it takes to clean and how much it takes to be obscene. Personally, I shampoo and then use my extractor with cold water. But I have been doing it that way for years. Frankly I have used wet dry vacs and no vacs. Of course, takes skill to clean with shampoo which I know some guys here have for both commercial and residential.
To me a TM is a very expensive sock for the crotch. How do they say it --- looks can be deceiving? Mi Dos Centavos |

Been busy working. Sorry I missed out on the conversation. So, what did I miss? Any eunuchs talking about how their strap-ons make them sex gods? Yep, opened another window and there it was. Portys rule, truckmounties drool.
Well, got to go feed my wife and I at the steakhouse. I know, you mounty guys have to feed your machines instead. Lifes a B then you die. Enjoy the diet. Portys rock! |

Does a person need to do drugs to know it is bad for you? Is it fair to say that parents who have not been addicts are not qualified to discuss drugs with their kids?
Why rag on soil, bryan? Do you perceive him to be a threat to all that is good about carpet cleaning? He does have a point. This is not a thread about TM machines. Seems to be titled Portable Carpet Cleaning Machines. I do not believe TMz are portable. Which end of the pool is your group in? Sorry soil to be sticking my nose in where it probably does not belong but I like to defend the underdog when he is making sense. Nothing personal bryan but this is beginning to look like big bullies trying to take on the little guy and if I see that going on I am going to have a few guys for lunch. Now back to your wargames. |

bryan.....first of all you should know what your talking about when you make statements. Sears doesn't own a carpet cleaning company. "the professional carpet cleaning group" a private company is contracted by Sears . they only use the Sears name for a fee to use their name. Second of all I don't need to blow out my porty with a compressor or anything else it's too cold to be out there this time of year. I'd rather stay inside but thanks for the suggestion. If business was as busy as summer I would consider working all year but I will wait out the slow months by the fire. gota go chop more wood!
