Very true. But for under $150 it looks very professional and is light enough. And hey no shipping charge. Also works with any truck, van, p/up. Made by LUND.

I would just get a good TM you can do more jobs that would offset for the gas every one is talking about. You will also do a better job and can market against ppl that use a porty. Most the adds you see that are 9.95 a room is a porty. A guy with a TM unless he is stupid shouldn't loose a job to some one with a porty. You will also save on chemicals as you wont need as much with a TM to get the carpets clean.

Bryan, I think truckmounts are great. Everyday when I am driving to the next job I go through neighborhoods with truckmounts in the same driveway day after day. So either it is taking these guys a long time to clean carpet or they weighed anchor until the storm passes. Oh, and I do see them in the Albertsons shopping center up by the store. I guess they are a great way to haul groceries too. Of course I am just driving through there on my way to make another bank deposit. Truckmounts are great for business. If it weren't for the porty guys undercutting on bids and getting the job done to the satisfaction of the customer, not to an extreme excess of expectations built on not reading the customer correctly. Yeah, truckmounts are great for business alright, great for the porty guys business who can afford to do it for less and live just as well as the truckmount guys. Truckmounts can do more jobs in a day, they just can't get enough people willing to take the higher price anymore to fill that day. I know that misery loves company, but maybe you should let us porty guys talk about what interests us and you stick to the truckmounts forum. Hope this insulted you. I know it warmed the heart of the porty operators big time. |

Soil lint green, it is just a few good points no need to take it personally(looks like you have). I you honestly think a portable can do as good as job as a good truck mount please give me some of what you are on. You are talking about taking care of the customer and doing the best job, well again that is a TM. When I see the news specials about people getting scammed on carpet cleaning I never see a TM only portables. This is why I was saying this is an advantage for selling to the customer.
The reason I post on a the portable section, was to offer a suggestion about getting more power(that is what he was after). As far as a portable I am not saying they do a bad job I own a 1001dx-200 has heat, good vacuum, but owning a TM also I can tell you that you can clean faster, and better with a TM. If it wasn't the case I would have not invested over 70k in a TM. As far as TM sitting in the drive way, how do you know there is not a portable inside. Also most vans don't fit in a garage where a guy with a portable may have it in his garage. So there could be just as many you just don't see. This is after all the slower part of the year for carpet cleaning. |

I know for a fact that portys do as good a job as truckmount at cleaning carpet. TM units are good for damage restoration services. They are overkill for cleaning carpets. So yes, porty operators take as good care of the customer as truckmount owners. After all, its the technician, not the technique, that delivers excellent or less than excellent service. If a truckmount was the deciding difference we can train chimps to clean carpet. Not all TM vans (in fact very few) are not able to fit into a garage due to height. That represents but a few. I see the porty owners (and Stanley Steemer with their TM units) rolling down the road when I am. It might be the "slower" time of the year, but it is not the "dead" time of the year. People are tapped out. You are a luxury while we a relative standard economy. Both business models have lost some business to Rug Doctor. We service middle class and you TM guys fight over the wealthier few. You may make more per hour but you sit and wait for the next big fish to come along and with so many of you guys having your lines in the water you can feel good about what you made on a part time basis to suplement your job (unless you care to starve) but usually your van sits idle in the garage or outside of it. Meanwhile the porty guys are cleaning the homes of your neighbors who aren't going to tell you because they don't want to cause trouble but you shouldn't feel bad for them, afterall, they did the smart thing by getting the best value for their dollar, right? Business is good. Maybe you ought to give that porty unit a try and keep the TM for that "someday" when a post WWII economic boom visits again. Should anyone alive today live so long. Portys rule, TMs drool. You can say what you want to justify in your mind all that money you sunk in your boat anchor and the false perception that you are worth more per hour than a decent lawyer. You are as much fun as watching those false religion solicitors trying to defend the lies that make them so much better than everyone else. TM units save gas because they are on the road less often. Wow, I found a plus in cleaning carpets (infrequently) with a TM. If you want to make an honest day's living, lose all that false pride and earn it. We do. Daily. Every day. |

Let me guess.... another TM operator pissed off from all the business
lost to the porty army? How did you put it John 3 days ago in Start your TM's Truckmount Carpet Cleaning Machines forum? Wasn't it:
"Anyone's TM been parked in the driveway for days? weeks? Whats the word?"
Thank you for proving my point. Now, copy my post all you want. Saves me from having to post the in-your-face truth about money p!$$ed away on equipment best used for water damage. You will reinforce what porty operators know and love about this business. One of America's largest carpet cleaning firms is almost exclusively portys. Sure is a bitch to have it thrown in your face but facts are facts. Oh, sure, every jealous TM and porty guy will say "They're scam artists" but they have been operating successfully for over 30 years serving a population base of over 8 million. Hurts, don't it? The guys you try to discredit are woopin yer arses off for a tenth of what you spend on unnecessary power. Chemicals clean carpet, not the force and suction of hot water extractors. That is why dwell times of 15 minutes. You may think you are cleaning with the butter knife edge of a wand but all you are doing is rinsing. Great wet/dry vac you got there. What did you pay for it? Now, shampoo machines clean by force more than chemicals which explains why their chemicals are as close to a neutral 7ph as possible. Defies logic if you use the Hot Water EXTRACTOR argument for "more power". You guys sound like a bunch of Tim Allens on Tool Time. Seriously John, defending portys is just as easy as defending TMs. This is a two way street, not King TM and serf PORTY. Blacks and Women stood up for and got their equal rights, it would be a mistake to believe Porty owners are going to take the "We Are Better" crap with less of a fight. There is only one kind of politics, dirty politics. Don't ask the losers of the race. They are still in disbelief. TM operators were given enough chances to treat us with the respect we are due. Now, the time for repentance is over. Big box electronic stores and Wally World did it with low prices. They forced the high priced competition out of business. Do we need to hang signs that say the days of Truckmounts dominating carpet cleaning came and went? You got to love price wars, unless you are on the losing side. |
