Do you know of any full time carpet cleaners who have died from many years of using product stronger than "Abstraction" or "Ecogent" ?

Over the years, I have heard from those professional Cleaners whom have , in their own and/or Doctors opinions, gotten cancer from using certain agents with solvents--particularly, dry cleaning agents.

That alone is pretty darn bad since the innocent individual has honestly provided a worthwhile service and labor to the customer. Then, unsuspecting, contracts cancer. And, the sad thing is that I suspect that many of those companies (still) formulating these products, know this very well too.

The beat goes on.....................

Good Fortune to all;

I personally spent many months in the hospital losing my gall bladder and it diseased my pancreas all because of a serious overdose of cleaning fluids. Atleast that's what the doctor diagnosed. They say I came close to death.

Does close count?

What about Red dyes, gum, coffee or tea and urine , As none of these
issues can be resolved with just mild soap and water.

I use a Non - Soap based detergent for a pre-spray and it is excellent ,
but specialty chemicals are almost a necessity in this business for taking
care of those things above.

Handled with care I think the risks are minimized, but will never be
eliminated.

New natural products are being produced all the time so I hope we can
eventually not have to use chemicals that are dangerous.

soap..... gard...pog....brown out...haitian ...and deo... are still all
chemicals ! ( I didn't quite understand Steamer, You do, or do not use any
of these???)

A painter breathes fumes
A lawn service breathes insecticides and fertilizers.
A bartender breathes Smoke.
And Cancer kills friends and family. I hope they keep pushing for more
environmentally friendly chemicals .

We need more of them thats for sure. ( environmentally safe chemicals) !

You must at least be able to identify potential hazards and implement the controls necessary to eliminate or minimize them. Its the law.

When it comes to cleaning chemistry the blind eye turned to it is friggin phenominal.

Oxidizers, rust removers and dry solvents are the tip of the iceberg.

How about the leading carpet prespray in North America?

It contains butyl cellusolve (which goes by many different names) CAS # 111-76-2 has a TWAEL of 20PPM to the skin.

Yes ma'am our soap is safe to your children and pets. OMG.

You gusy want to clean carpet or not?

If you don't use ANY chemicals, then turn off the water too, that has all kinds of hazards in it. Good grief, you are being PAID to KNOW what you are doing and to REMOVE thier soil and stains.

but for real, Lee do you have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder"?

Posted By: Harry

Every year our understanding of what is hazardous both to us and our world changes. I just think it's wise to be careful how one uses and applies ANY product. If you want to decrease the chem part of the cleaning pie, without big increases in the time part. Then clearly temp or agitation are the parts to increase. Temp often involves a lot of fossil fuel.

One big plus for Cimex or OP cleaning.

Think of YOUR grandkids.

Jackblack, its called having a conscience.

Since I know better, I choose to do what is right.

The principles of occupational health and safety are quite clear. When possible you should always protect the worker with engineering or administrative controls. PPE is a last resort.

Butyl Cellusolve is on the schedule 1 list of chemicals to be (possibly) outlawed by the Canadian government. You think there might be something there bud.

Then there is the customer too. Maybe you should be concerned with their health too.

Point well taken danmarck. We sell a product called http://www.kleenkuip.com/products/perky_spotter.htm - Perky Spotter it has been around for a long time. Very friendly with no smell. Giving it dwell time it works very well on coffee, urine, tea and even gum. The problem is we are all looking for instant results like http://www.kleenkuip.com/products/proxi.htm - Proxi and generally not willing to give a good but less aggressive product time to work.

Giving away http://www.kleenkuip.com/products/perky_spotter.htm - Perky Spotter to your customers is good advertising. They will always call you back for more.

Jack you are right. None of us are going to live forever. But it would be nice to be able to breathe fresh air the last twenty or so years of our lives.

You will think differently after 50 and think more about your children and grand children.

Maybe you will get that big black truckmount quicker by offering an Enviro Service to those who want to clean healthier. A quickly growing marketing opportunity.

The soap is what's cracking your hands up. And the gard - P.O.G., Brown Out, Haitian Cotton and the Deo will all kill you stone dead. You just may be getting sooner than later that long awaited rest you are looking for in 05.

It's the P.O.G. that did me in.

What we will do to make a buck. With most of us willing to breath balls of fire to enjoy the better things in life. Maybe the government putting the breaks on our toxic chemicals in our industry will actually be good for us if not our children. Something good usually comes out of something bad.

He tried, but didn't suceed. It will take more than that to eliminate what is soon to be his greatest competition. John has never had to deal with serious competition to his machines and pad sales before. But now that is changing with the advent of my Sahara Super Pads  going on sale now all over Canada and the USA. But the other shoe is soon to drop.............
