when I first run my truck mount machine in the morning, the first gallon of water that comes from my hose is black, does anyone know a way (besides for replacing the hose) to clean this so black doesn't come out in the mornings? ------------- Roy |

Have had several Butler high pressure hoses ( Grey ) that the interior
starts deteriating and it starts coming out black. It's a pain especially when you are beginning to clean an off white carpet job. They told me it was because of a fresh water rinse instead of using chemical on your rinse cycle going through that hose, and I had to buy new ones! Although I don't quite buy their theory. I switched to a an Orange hose that I purchase from a local distributor and they have done well. As far as a cure. Others may have different opinions. mine probably doesn't help much. ------------- Here to help you grow your business! |

Roy: If you are running the chemiclal threw the machine this makes it difficult to stop the deteroration of the inside of your hose. If you are using chemical feed shut it off just before the end of the last job to flush your lines out. That may extend your hose life. I have had hoses blow and blow that black around but never had it come out of the hose first thing in the morning. It is a wonder your jets are not plugging. I use the blue Goodyear hose it works but nothing great. What temps are you running your truck at. It might be a good idea to flush everything out. I am sure it is not good to have lengths of hose filled with chemical sit for days when not in use. Just some thoughts. ------------- Just My opinion |

I use the goodyear hose and run my temp around 210-220 prochem 405, the only chem ran through the hose is fiber rinse, and my jets never clog from the black, its the same black stuff you get when you blow a line. I may try that flushing every evening and see if that helps. "anymore Ideals!". ------------- Roy |

RoyD I also run a pair of 405's I have only had the black when a hose blows. Maybe it is the hose. I right now am having a problem with the govenor on one unit. I am hoping for a rebuild as they are worth their weight in gold to buy one. I will keep my ears open to see if anyone else has had that problem. ------------- Just My opinion |

Roy... It sounds to me that your truck is set toooo hot... and you don't let it cool down properly before you shut down for the day... You should open the heat bypass and turn your temp down and let the truck run for a little while at low idle while you wrap up your hoses and take care of the bill ------------- www.mr-steamer.com |

Are you sure this black substance is coming out of the hose only? Have you let water out of the unit with no hoses attached to see if you have a problem deeper than the hose. If so sounds like someone sold you the wrong hose or you have used products through the hose that is slowly disolving the inside of the hose. Now that I think about it when we repair a metal reinforced hose we see black guck. Maybe your chemical is reacting to the metal inside your hose. Do you put an acid rinse through your system? ANOTHER THOUGHT (?):
If there are any galvinized plumbing parts (steel) instead of all 100% stainless steel, it will leave a black residue. I have seen this many times.

As Ed said, I also have had galvanised type fittings installed on my hoses, and consequently these have started putting out black water. Changed the ferrules, end of problem.
