I am currently working on a business plan to step into the carpet cleaning business. After reading alot of posts, I need the insight of members as to all that I will need to be successful in this trade. I will not be doing this part time, Im looking career, this will have 110% of my time and effort. I have read alot about working for a carpet cleaning company or take a class, but in my area that is not possible. Is there any resources that I can buy to help me learn what I need to know about this business ? DVD, book ect.. I do not want to just get equipment and consider myself a carpet cleaner, I want to provide an excellent service and experience for my customers. I will be doing strictly residential for now. I read truckmounts is way to go, where can I find a good deal on one as I do not have 30 to 50k to spend.

| I am in the US in California, do you recomend a port and I have seen alot of sites where they have sort of a started kit that comes with all you need, rotovac has a few for example am I better off getting something like that or not ? |

bjones; "If it were me"....I would keep looking around because there are machines out there which have ---4--wheels (oh, no, that must mean that they are a "portable!"--LOL!) and will blast through dirt and grim unbelievably as well as a TM would. Stay away from Wool and Indian Rugs/ Carpets. The rest is like washing clothes. Not much can happen on 99% of floor covering out there. IT"S NOT MAGIC. I can tell you what detergent to use to save a lot of money instead of getting CLEANED OUT by commercial detergents out there.....but I will have the whole board sending me NASTY COMMENTS. BUT...BUT...BUT if you beg me to, say please often, and suck up to me.....Maybe I will let you in on a secret that will save you thousands of dollars . Nightrider |

I have seen Oxi-Clean work. In general though, the strongest detergent in your home arsenal is dish detergent (not dishwasher detergent). What other cleaner do you have a home that will break down greasy dirt and rinse away without agitation? Not recommending either, just saying these are thoughts to consider. I have personally used Oxi-Clean as a booster only and yes, it does work like nobody's business in HWE. However, I am VLM only now and neither work in a low moisture environment, delivering the same effect and ease of removal.

Nightrider says stay away from Indian rugs and wool. These are the carpets you can charge $2.00 to $5.00 per sq/ft. As long as you purchase the appropriate products and take a few hours in a course to learn the ups and downs on cleaning them. The uneducated Tide guys are charging 15cents per sq/ft. and wondering why they cannot afford to eat.
