Hello,

I am new to this forum and thank you in advance to all who may be able to help my family. My mom and dad are now both in nursing homes. They own a house (3-bedroom single story ranch) that we now have to sell. The house smells terribly (dog smell) from a big Labrador Retriever that was in the house for 8 years. I am sure the smell is in the carpets (wall to wall carpeting) as well as the furniture, curtains, etc. We have tried some sprays but to no avail. And now with the windows having to be closed for upcoming winter, the smell is even worse. Is there anything we can do to permanently remove all the smell short of having to rip up the carpet and padding and throw away the furniture? Thank you.

If the smell is that bad, I would think replacement is the only way to permanently get rid of the smell. be sure to scrub and seal the sub floor before installing new carpets.

You can try a pet urine deodorizer, if that doesn't help I would agree with cleanex and replace the lot.

Not sure about to days standards, but it used to be if more than 10% of the carpet was effected with urine contamination it was best to replace it.
Many cleaners think they just clean and apply some urine removal type product and solve the clients problem. Got news for you it is not that simple

I'm in the same boat. I'm here because a month ago, my husband decided it would be a brilliant idea to bring home 2 pitbulls who have since destroyed my beautiful, white (newish) carpet. The deodorizer has helped with the smell but by no means has it affected the stains. I gave up trying to clean it myself and I'm going to find a pro to do it. Since this thread is called the "Carpet Cleaners Hangout" I figured someone would be able to recommend a cleaner in my area. I was looking at this list of http://www.angieslist.com/companylist/seattle/carpet-cleaning.htm - Seattle carpet cleaners but I realized there was no point in trying to pick someone without hearing some advice from all of you pro's. Let me know if you can help me out.
