How many people on this board can remeber the good old days of the Ontario Professional Carpet Cleaners Association.

It was ahead of it's time, let me tell you. Education and good times went hand in hand.

Don,

I must say that most of my good advice and cleaning education came from the OPCCA.

And as far as good times you know you have had a good time when you can't remember the next morning.

Too bad it's gone as our industry now has an overload of available knowledge through forums and websites such as this one. The industry should look at more social events. But not quite as social as the old days. (This body can no longer handle it).

In fact if we hired George from Steamex in North Bay for the entertainment we could turn it into a tidy profit.

And most of what was taught at the OPCCA came from the ARCA out here in Calgary before that. I liked it better when they were both still around.

Good question man we used to get some awesome turnouts to our meetings and conventions

The biggest problem in my estimation was when suppliers started to host IICRC schools, that had a big effect on the local Association that relied on providing educational seminars for the members. Carpet cleaners only had so much money and time to spend away from their business, and I guess that the IICRC and all it's schools left the local association in the dust.

The Ontario group amalagamated with the Floorcovering Institute of Ontario and for some reason that I don't understand a lot of the core group of members chose not to remain a member of the FIO.

FIO has members from all aspects of the industry, from carpet manufacturers to the cleaners, what more could you ask for?

Don

One of my fondest memories was when you took me out one night to teach me how to operate a truckmount. If i recall you were laughing at me when i couldn't even pick up the darn wand off the carpet!

It was a great group of people. i do agree with you in that the IICRC has taken away the role of education. Many associations tied only to carpet cleaning have certainly suffered. However, i will add that the IICRC does offer some great benefits.

Mr. Steamer:  I am glad you mentioned the Legion I think I get my 25 year pin this year  or maybe 30 I forget. I recall attending the OPCCA certification seminar with Don and Peter instructing the cource which was top notch at the time.  But as time went by companies did not want to pay for 2 certifications one being OPCCA and the other being IICUC, so the rest is history.Guitar

Don't count the IICRC as dead my friend, they will be around for many a year.  Great schools available in all subjects, alot of first class instructors.

I don't like the politics that go on behind closed doors, however, bit by bit they are addressing them.

Best place to go for education.

Mr Steamer,

Ask what not your industry can do for you but what you can do for your industry.

Now three months ago I would not dare to have said this but Steamer you have agreed upon education and purchase a product other than soap & water in the last week.

Praise the Lord...You have been reborn.

Chemicals are just a crutch...once you get reliant on them it cripples your cleaning abilities... if you don't have that one certain favorite chemical you might not be able to clean...

I've been using proxi for the last week... now every spot I see I want to proxi it...I'm half way through a jug... what did I use before proxi..?? how did I ever survive....???we'll see if I can live without when it's done..

As for IICRC I know people that put it on their Ads and not one member on the crew is certified....lol it's a joke

Ted start your own organization...you and Jim Darling...maybe something better will happen...and I don't have to keep sending those damn Yankees my Yankee dollars
