One of my customers bombarded her carpets so heavily with vinegar that I thought I walked into a sour smelling salad bowl when I entered her front door. The bacteria levels were the target for the customer in the carpet and I checked a few samples under my microscope. Bacteria was nearly non-existent but a gruesome odor was in its place.

It took all I could muster to remove the stench, including a bleach blast and a dozen or so unprovoked methane bursts from one of my employees whose vile colon happened to be running amok that day. He kept muttering "Fight fire with fire" but I didn't think it was funny at all since I was doing all I could to handle the foul odor as it was.

Who is spreading rumors that vinegar is suitable to use on carpet?

EHow among others.  Search Google for "white vinegar for cleaning carpets".

Are you in a high paying business or are you just a self employed low paid grunt who thinks this business provides dignity?

Same people who push to use vinegar on wood floors.

This resurgence of Farmers Almanac home solutions has gotten a little silly. People think vinegar is supernatural, I swear. Recently, I had a customer who dowsed a mustard stain with rubbing alcohol. That was new. Another one dropped an egg on the carpet. His solution? Pour boiling water on it. Poaching an egg in carpet. Of course! It's so simple! He was pretty proud of himself too.

the smell of vinegar will go once it's dried so you should have just extracted as much as you could and stuck a drier on it and opened the windows. job done

I have read lots of posts about all the cleaning uses of white vinegar. The problem that most have is mixing it too strong and not extracting it properly from the area they applied it to. I use it on occasion and do not have any problems.
