Hi all,
I need some feedback regarding frieze carpets which are popular around here lately and some call "the new shag." I've cleaned hundreds of these and usually find they have absorbed more stains than normal and are especially hard to clean, and are also harder to dry and even vacuum. No one seems to discuss which styles and fibers are the best-cleaning in our industry so the consumers can get the real inside-scoop on what's practical to buy. My friend has installed lots of thick friezes in rentals which are getting completely neglected/abused and after two years or so, are often too far gone to restore. Even cheap apt./grade nylon plushes would be more practical. What do you all think?

If you mean the ones made out of recycled pop bottles - think polyester. Same thing, same overall problems.

but no, these are good-quality nylons. I've even compared the cleanability of some Dupont Xtra-Life nylon (typical plush) with a frieze of the same exact fiber, and they were like night-and-day. What is it about the construction of the frieze that affects cleanability? Or am I hallucinating?

Next time your friend wants to throw out a section, take it from him. It is nylon, same fibers as any other nylon. That is what I hear anyways after doing some googling. In theory, making the HWE method work should not be a challenge. I do not think I would use bonnets or any rotary brushes on it as that may screw up the cut pile loops.
