Hi Everyone,

Im new to this forum and in actual fact this is the first time I have been apart of a forum.  I have noticed that there are alot of people on this forum which have heaps of knowledge and expeience about Carpet cleaning.  Therefore I wanted to take advantage of this opportunity and kindly pick at your brains to get some advice.

I want to start up my own carpet & upholstery cleaning business within the next month or two.  But I want to do it the proper and proffessional way, by walking away keeping the customer happy.   I have about 4-5 months of experience cleaning carpets, upholstery and ducts but the person I used to work for had no idea about customer satisfaction nor did he know much about what chemicals should be used on what carpets or upholsteries.  I DONT WANT TO RUN A BUSINESS THAT WAY, ITS NOT RIGHT.

Now in saying all this I have the following problems I need guidance and advice on.  So please help.

1. Business name: I have a couple of ideas but not sure what would appeal to customers. Some examples are: Dry one, Dry Top, My rugs, King Clean, Carpet Zone, Rug Dry, My Carpet, Carpet Dry etc. Any other ideas?

2. Cleaning Course: I know how to Carpet Clean but want more information and training in spot cleaning, stain removal and want to get a better idea of the cleaning chemicals that are out there and want to know what chemical to use on what job. Jena Dyco which is a course provider in Carpet Cleaing wants $4000 for their cleaning courses. But I cant afford this and I cant get a govt funding for the course either.  Does anyone know of any other courses which is a bit cheaper or even an online course would be useful as well.

3. Advertising/Leads: I am getting a friend helping me out creating a web site but Im not sure how I should advertise my business and who I should advertise with.  I guess Im abit scared investing all this money on starting this business up and not getting enough jobs or leads.  Not to mention that I just recently got married therefore I have to be very careful of how I spend my money.  Any suggestions on how and who I should use??

4. Equipment and chemicals: The other problem I have is deciding which carpet and upholstery machine I should purchase and who I should purchase my chemicals from. I want my business to be all about quality and customer satisfaction.  I hate some of the people who are in the cleaning business and ripping customers off.

So please help me on starting up my own business as its something Im eally excited about doing :).

Thanks

Hey new kid I'm new as well, but have been planning for 6 months to start-up.First off the name thing does appeal, but you make the name. The company I work for uses their last name and the part of Missouri I'm in ( a major city) loves hometown favorites and the family buisness side of it.Its just a thought.I have been looking at rotovacs start up special, but cleancraft.com has a start up special for $8000 with a ton of chemicals and equipment and they come to your home for 3 days to train you on cleaning carpet and ulpostrey, plus invoices and maketing. In MO we have jon-don that sells every chemical and most likely depending where you are located you can go and pick your chemicals up.They also offer carpet cleaning technican couses(offered by the IIRC) all the way up to master textile and everything in between.IIRC comes to are city 1-3 times a year and people fly in from all over, and if a class is not offered here we fly to the east coast usally. If its possiable for you to fly and take a $400 class it sounds better then $4000.Advertising is difficult, I've looked all over these forums and certain things work in certain areas. In MO its a BIG word of mouth state.I don't think doorhangers, flyers will hurt. The best idea is a carpet store to sponser you ,because customers have to get capets cleaned 1 time a year not to void their warranty.

Harry. Do you live in Melbourne Florida or Melbourne Australia? If Australia, why not try logging onto australianforums.biz. There are plenty of people there who can give you good advice on all your questions above. Cheers.

Hi Mark and RIP IT,

Firstly I want to thank you guys so much for taking the time giving me some useful tips.  Cleancraft.com sounds like a great idea to start up with though I live in Melbourne Australia and I will defiantly look into the company to see if their services are available here in Australia.  I joined australianforums.biz yesterday and will be posting for advice there as well.

I will also start looking into speaking with carpet stores for referals and see how I go.

Thanks again guys.  Greatly appreciated :)
