Subject: Help On Chemicals

Just getting Strated in the business and need some input on cleaning chemicals. I am using a portable and chmicals from cleancraft. THe main chemical is called Code Green. It is a prespray, spotter, and what I use in my extractor. It is doing a very good job, but is expensive. I would like a all in one product like this and try to save $ also. Can anyone tell me about the product they are using and the cost and how to get some to try. Or should I take the attitude that if it is working don't screw with it.
thanks

best advice for a newbie is get samples of as many as you can and find out what works best for you! What works for someone in one place won't necessarily work the same in another place, even within the same city... all sorts of things come into play such as local soil conditions, the chemistry of your water supply (if you're not using an RO system, i.e. Reverse Osmosis or water softener), the type of equipment etc... so give 'em a try and as John L suggested, buy in bulk lots, not little bits at a time!

Also, check dilution rates of what you're using and then the cost; just cos a pack of Brand X is cheaper than Brand Y doesn't make it cheaper to use if the product can't be diluted as much Brand Y; it's the Ready To Use (RTU) cost you need to look at first and foremost.

I switched to Bonnet cleaning and watched my per sqft costs drop like the Biggest Loser drops the pounds.  And fast drying times are a major selling point.  Plus passing on a part of the savings means lower prices for the customers while still getting higher profits.

I will keep the porty for some mall stores that specify it.  It has its place but being open minded to alternatives keeps my costs down.  FreshAire is right about true costs of chemicals.  I use a Heavy Duty version of the cleaner I employ in cleaning with low moisture because the RTU is much lower due to a better dilution rate of chemical to water and shipping costs remain the same whether I have cases of regular or heavy duty sent to me.

Do the math, look for the cheapest way to do what the customer wants done.  But you have to do your own homework Kelly.  We can provide hints but not answers.

Try http://www.Magicwandcompany.com - www.Magicwandcompany.com  I get 95% of my stuff there. For a prespray I use their Powdered Power Prespray. It is good stuff. I aslo spray it from a pump up sprayer (that saves the life of my extractor).

Order their video they give out. It is a real lesson in Carpets!

I do not work for them, I just use a ton of their stuff.

They also have samples you can try out.

Jay.. Do you have any idea what the cost comes to per gal in your mixed prespray?

OK let me explain they say only $0.68 cents per gal.. Thats incorrect.. They forgot to add S&H cost into that.. That money your paying for the chemical also..

If you buy the 6lb jar x 16oz per lb = 96oz
Add about $8 for S&H so 6lb jar is $60.85 divided by 96oz = $0.63 cents per oz of chem not mixed..
It says mix 2oz per gal for prespray.. OK you have a 2gal pumpup..
Mix 4oz x .63 cents per oz = $2.52 everytime you empty that 2gal pumpup..Ahhhh!!

You might have to add 2 more oz @ .63 oz = another $1.26 making that 2gal pumpup cost you $3.78!! Ahhhh!!  for the nastier jobs..

That is way too expensive for a prespray for me..

That may be, but I havent come across many things that I cant get out.

I have never really hurt due to that. Let's see $3.78 and that 2 gallons will prespray a job that brings in close to lets say a $400 job (likely more). Even if all my chems cost that much, that is one heck of a profit margin.

And Like I said the results are worth it. I love to hear the responses of my clients...how much they love the way their carpets look compared to the last guy who did their carpets.

Plus the nastier jobs I dont need to add anything to it, it works for the nasty jobs as is, maybe an oxygen booster.

I dont need to convince you, but thought I would try to help someone out.

John
you aint making much money that's why you're so worried about how much you spend.

I would never spray 2 gallons of prespray in only 2 rooms. 2 gallons does the whole house with the chemicals I use.

Price is not my only concern though with chemicals in fact it is my last concern.
I just need my supplier to have the stuff on hand at all times.

I suspect your customers nickle and dime you so you in turn then nickle and dime your supplier.

Me??? I want everybody to make money and feed their kids.

there is lots of things you can do to save money..

Use premium gas...better milage better for your van
make sure the tire pressure is correct
don't use soap.

I just buy chemicals and use chemicals...

2 Gallons I can do 3 bedrooms, a livingroom, dining room, and maybe another.

Most jobs I can get by with 1.5 gallons.

The bottom line is what works.
