Their are many good pre-sprays made by many reputable companies. You must realize that food grease may need a different formula compared to mechanic grease. Olefin is a challenge that has reared it's ugly head these days and a special pre-spray is made for Olefin. You must also pre-spray wool with neutral or slightly acetic pre-sprays. Hopefully you get my point.

Your chemical cost should be 3% of the job or less. This is not the area to cut corners.

Sounds like you need to sit down with a reputable supplier of quality products and quit listening to engine degreaser formulas. Is that what you would accept on your carpet?

Buying in drums is the most efficient. My suppliers sometimes have open drums and will sell certain chemicals out of them by the pound. You would have to clean a helluva lot of carpets for the cost difference to mean much to you.
