Hi Guys and Gals I am new to the forum, and new to owning a carpet cleaning business, although I have worked in the industry for 2 years, so I am still learning. I use an advance pacesetter 17", with two different types of bonnet...  Synthetic Bonnet 'Thin' (Smoke & Mirrors)  100% Cotton 'Thick Pad'
(Offers a serious cleaning job) but really want to give my customers a better result, so would really appreciate any info on the cotton/micro fiber...where can I buy it, will it work on my machine etc... I start by raking the carpet with a groomer, then vacuum, then spot where necessary, followed by a hydrogen peroxide and enzyme solution...then do two runs with the pacesetter, one vertical,one horizontal, followed by a final rake and groom... Anybody think I should do anything different (while still using the pacesetter  ) ?I use only natural products that have green seal certification, or are certified by environmental choice in Canada, but at times have to use a chemical spotter to remove ink,oil,wine,juice etc...obviously with the clients consent...does anyone have any recommendations for a good all round spotter, chemical or natural...how do you guys work with stains like red ink or coffee that have been there 5/6 months?They are driving me crazy... I have followed alot of the advice on this forum, I must have read most of the posts by now. This is my first week of business, I advertised with valpak...60,000 homes, 3 replies so far.. Joined the chamber of commerce, and my local bni...will keep you posted. Last night wrote letters for various customer types...churches, restaurants and bars, hotels and motels, schools, real estate and property management and commercial buildings. Each letter is client specific, so while I have the time I will deliver them in person. I got a really nice van and spent $1300 having sign*a*rama decal it, and over the next few days my website will go live. So now I just need to clean some carpets... I would really appreciate any advice on an alternative to the hydrogen peroxide, or some info on spotters that work. | I have used the Micro fiber pads with the blue stripes I use primaraly on carpets that might tip bloom, as well as you don't have cotton balls from pad left behind. I have also used on heavy soiled carpets with success. I keep 3 in the van as back up. I also have the mop bucket/with removalable internal buckets & wringer for flushing them as I use them. I always heat the water to about 200 degrees that and Hot Knife or Punch work great. |

I use Kick for general spotting: http://www.earthcoproducts.com/products.html Your pad solution is probably about as good as you can get. If you had a dual speed buffer, I might recommend experimenting with a fluffy looped poly pad at around 300 rpm. Do you really find the vertical-then-horizontal approach to be most effective? I've noticed unattractive patterns that don't necessarily disappear after grooming. I usually do a counter-clockwise orbital motion in a 3x3 area then move on to the next and so on, avoiding long arcs and lines. |

Thanks Michael, I will have a look at earth products. To be honest I find that I often use a number of different approaches when it comes to cleaning the carpets... I will first hit it from what ever direction the main traffic comes...ie whatever direction peop-le will initally walk into a room, as this is the direction they carry the most debris on their feet. Then its really take your pick time, the high traffic areas may get hit from a number of different directions, the low from only the one.... I usually spend way to much time messing around trying to get out ancient spots, and sometimes to much time trying to clean carpet that is ready for the trash... Hot knife is from vacaway.com works very well on severly dirty and greasy areas Punch is another good pad/encap cleaning chem. by excellent-supply.com
