Subject: The myth we call carpet cleaning

I have been cleaning carpets professionally for 24 years. I must say cleaning a carpet is a myth. I have never cleaned a carpet, I have made thousands of customers happy, made so many raunchy carpets look like new but I know I am nothing more than an illusionist. I make soil and stains go away. I make rust invisible but do I clean a carpet really? No. it’s not a possibility. It does not matter if you use a truck mount or portable it makes no difference. I can make a carpet look better with a tooth brush than most can with a $25,000.00 Prochem, so what I am saying is don’t fool yourself. Learn the industry and understand the limitations so you can adjust for them, it will make your life so much easier. The best carpet cleaner is the best illusionist I tell my customers that. I tell them the truth and they keep coming back because they see a clean carpet. I see a dirty carpet that looks clean.

HJTRAS,

I have heard a lot of bullsh*t over the years from carpet cleaners who have never grasped the above knowledge. I am going to make it look new. I will get ALL the dirt out. I will make it resist ALL soils. THe fact is that you could not afford to stay long enough to remove ALL the soils, it will never happen.

Do what you have to do to make him/her happy enough to pay you.

I wrote a long drawn out clever answer until I realized only 5% of the people would even get my humor.  Maybe its time to look to science.com or something with a bit more reality to it.  Ill check out the chemical make up of the plastic on your truck mount hoses and get back to you.  Lets Game on

Yep, customers mind tells him that a cleaner looking carpet translates into a clean carpet.  Let them think whatever they want and don't bust your ass trying to do the impossible.

BTW, there is no such thing as Steam Cleaning either.  Let them believe what they want to believe.  They like paying people who agree with them and make them feel important rather than paying people who like to correct and educate.

Yep, you can tell your wife and priest how wrong the customer might be but in his/her home it is their rules, their view of the world that matters.  If they say the world is flat and the sky is polka dots, that is just the way it is.

If you clean them before they look dirty, the soil level will remain very low

sort of, but the prespray offer is really poor here, so there are no many chances to try new products.

Do you know a good brand of cleaning products distributed worldwide?

So we go from Carpet cleaning to a$$ and b@||$ cleaning.  "Ok, Hang on to him, this is going hurt rover just a wee bit.  That will be $400, you can pay the receptionist.  And make sure he stays off that.  I will be a little tender until it grows back".
