But, what is considered to be the best way to really clean carpets? Or, is a combo the best way?

Well, I should have been more specific. I read over the posts here and some say nothings better than HWE, others yell about pads, others bonnets, some say dry....semi-dry, foam...naked (I like that one but live in a 'golden area' retirement city...yuck!)...all I really want is a really gooa way to clean carpets. Not asking for a four hour down-laod...I will go to school somewhere. I own a portable that came w/my rotovac a year or so ago....then I bought a hearer and an air mover. Now, I am giving thought to either an OP machine or rotary machine. Or bigger, hotter portable. I have no intention on competeting with the hot water shooters...i want to provide a real service for my clients. Hot water extraction is the most popular. However, there will be times when other methods are more appropriate, depending on the type of carpet, soil level, etc.  -------------
