No offense to anyone here, but I have read a bit about a lot of you pre vacuuming when you go into a customers home. Have any of you heard of cross contamination. I got sued 2 1/2 years ago because a customer had a massive asthma attack, caused by cat dander from my vacuum. This is NOT uncommon. I have not vacuumed a home since. Every once in a while I will vacuum with the customer's vacuum, but I would never take mine into an occupied home. Imagine some of the houses we go into. People have dog piss and cat crap in their carpet and you take that into someone elses home? Are you friggen nuts? Unless you are changing the bag on every single job, you should not vacuum. This is just my own two cents, but hopefully it will prevent some of you from getting sued, like I did. BTW, we had to pay all of her medical expenses, we had to pay COIT (her choice) to go into her house and clean everything, including ducts, mattresses, walls, etc. Please think about what you are taking into peoples homes.

Another thing: Is it not the customer's responsibility to vacuum their own carpet? What, they only get their carpet vacuumed when they have it cleaned? It is their responsibility to vacuum their own carpet in their own house.

I agree...but alot here might think you are a hack!...I tell them to vac and move breakables....
if it's really bad I might do a quick pre vac with the truckmount...and I charge for that

I dont' care if some here think I'm a hack. Let one customer with enough balls and money take them to court for cross contamination and then we will see who the hack is. Vac with truckmount is ok, you are not spreading contaminants.

How does a hepa filter clean the brushes on a vacuum? If you trap a lot of cat hair in your brushes and take it into a home where the person's only allergy is cat's, hypothetically speaking of course, how is that not cross contamination. I'm not saying that all people will sue, I am simply saying that if you get the right person with enough balls and money, you can lose everything.

UMMMMM, hello, I was sued. She can sue me for looking at her cross eyed if she wants to. Doesn't mean she will win. So that makes your reply, nonsense.

"Like I said people sue in the states because they can."
You said it, and you are contradicting yourself. I am tired of having this battle of wits with an unarmed person. Go bug someone else.

Do your customers get mad at you when you sneak into their laundry room and use their laundry detergent on their carpet, or do you just buy your own from the dollar store?

You apparently don't like to have new people on this board for some reason and you just want to piss people off so that newbies here will listen to your bullsh*t and give you a big head.

If I was 53 and old school like you, I would probably feel that same way when I went into someone's home with my shampoo machine. Seriously, retire!

SuperDry how many houses did you vacuum before you were sued? I think you have an isolated case. If you look at all the maid services out there, they would be getting sued left and right. The IICRC also recommend that you pre-vac along with CRI. You could then sue these firms for saying this is the correct way to clean. I also have allergies to cats you would need a lot of pet hair to have an attack. I'm assuming you are using a vac with a HEPA filter. I also have an inhaler if I did have an attack that would counter the attack, what medical bills did she have? Like Nightrider said sound like you lawyer wasn't that good. IMO
