I talked with Hunt for an hour last night. This guy needs some good advice - let't try and help him as much as we can.

1003HV 0-450 Adj. Parallel 3-Stage $800

I have this unit. I have never used it, but my crew doesn't care for it. Too heavy and not great suction. However, they are comparing to a TM.

I prefer an RX20 to a Rotovac. Better design, better drying IMO

Experience has proven over & over here at Kleen Kuip those who purchase portable equipment that pushes the limits with the electrics that are available to you have problems, especially with employees who incorrectly plug-in and blow fuses and or breakers.

This can be a costly disaster when you find out the next day you blew out a meat or ice cream cooler. Keep in mind that high performance equipment usually requires 2 electrical outlets and a rotary system attached will require 1 more totalling 3 outlets.

If this is the option you choose then make absolutely sure you also purchase a http://www.kleenkuip.com/portables/edic_extraction_accessories.htm - circuit locator . This will give you a better focus on the available electrics and peace of mind. You can also purchase equipment that now have circuit locators on-board.

Good Luck Big smile

P.S.
If you are dealing with Rotovac, rest assured that you are dealing with a reputable company who stand behind their equipment.

Would look into the Rx-20.  I started off with a portable, but wish I would of just gone truck mount.  You can get them used very cheep now.  Also most customers ask for truck mounts now.

I suggested a good used TM but he wants to take a few smaller steps first. I can appreciate that. He is focused on doing good work and will take some courses. Lots of people started out that way.

If there's not too much competition in his market, a porty is OK to start out

Good point, but starting with a TM gives you an advantage right away. We cleaned with portys for years when we did mostly janitorial. Then we decided to change directions and do mostly carpets. Never looked back after I bought my first TM

Ya my porty is used 2%of the time now.  If I could do it over would buy very cheep proty, and put rest toward TM.

I hope that I get good anuff and busy anuff to need a TM but taking babysteps for now. From talk to pilediver and several other people the diffence between TM and portable is night and day. But baby steps for now thanks.

Dont take baby steps...go big or go home....

I would say get a porty if you are not committed...but if you know this is something you're going to want to do... get a truckmount!

When I started out I had no one to tell me or show me....I wish I had saved time and went for a truck right away...

it took me a whole 4 weeks to realize...LOL
