This is a good question and it is not that text book simple a solution as some might think. I dealt with a case today. Candle wax on olefin. Customer had previously used and iron and craft paper in an attempt to pull the wax out. The trouble was the carpet was olefin and she slightly melted it (as most know olefin melts very easy). I thought I could still improve the carpets appearance. I tried liquid dry-cleaner - didn't work. I used TM heat and citrus- didn't work. Tried zip spotter - didn't work. I took this on a challenge and lost so I didn't charge my customer. Paraffin oil must have an affinity to olefin like most petrochemicals do and add to that the slight melting that the customer did and what do you get - a somewhat wasted Saturday morning on a long weekend. But my honesty and genuine concern for her problem and how I handled it bought me more loyalty than I would have ever made invoicing my effort! I did try and melt away the wax with the heat of the t ruckmount on it at about 200 (hot as she goes!) Didn't work. Solvent was last resort. The carpet was in a garage room and glued down. Parafin must act like petroleum in olefin. The carpet was toast before I attempted anything. Come to think of it the wax was probably gone but the stain remained and the melting of the carpet surface from her attempt to use and iron made the surface feel like it still had wax in it.

piledriver, I think your last assessment was right on , what was left may have been melted fibers.
