If you do PRICE ADVERTISING you will automatically attract PRICE SHOPPERS.

So, be prepared not to complain when they want it even less expensive than the advertised price.

Know who you are dealing with.

whatever works for you, if you want to be the lowest price, and rely on upselling, it`s probably a good idea to advertise it. I guess the theory of  ........Sears, Zellers, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Target, The Bay, Home Depot, Loblaws, Gas Stations, Beer Posters, is to attract cust. with the low prices then screw them on the other stuff , I should fire my technicians and hire salesmen, hmmmm thats crazy enough to work.
good luck

People want to know your price...so they don't take one up the ass after they call you

The Carpetologist would never want to be known as the CHEAPEST guy in Town and never will be and nor should you.

It costs money to offer quality and back it up with service.  The cheap guy simply has to leave something out and always does.

Our industry lives for today, seldom will a carpet cleaner purchase because its an exceptional deal.  He will pay what he has today the day he needs the unit and that little bit of information comes with experience.

Remember guys I am in the same business as you are Trying to make a dollar.

Hi guys just wondering how anyone else out there handles the price swings. My main competitors are the bay, sears, and crystal carpet clean. Being new to the business I keep an eye on the pricing of these guys and keep my prices about $10.00 per job less until I get established. I spent an evening printing out a few thousand flyers with a whole house cleaning package for $99.00(5 rooms, hall stairs). This was slightly less than the other guys until the bay offered the same package for $75.00 or $15.00 per room. The question is do I chuck this advert or just stick to my price and deliver them or do you guys let your prices flip flop with your competitors. will be watching for any replies thanks.

What you need to do is sit down and figure out your expenses (cost of doing business) and try and figure out what you need an hour or a sq. ft. to make a decent profit. Secondly you want to distance yourself from those type of companies you can never undercut them. I still call them bait & switch but others say not. another thing they are high volume companies where as you are trying to find your nitch?

Thanks doug for the quick response, but I think I can under cut them if I didn't mind working for nothing. all my equip is paid for, I work out of my home and my wife has a well paying government job. Any money I make is our gravy. I just don't want to work for free. Thanks again I think I'll just wait a couple of days and deliver my flyers as they are by that time 90% of the newspapers with there add will be in the recycle bin and long forgotten. thanks again

I got news for you Cmaster. The reason I'm starting this business is because my employer got bought out by an American company and closed our plant in milton. I worked for Eatons home cleaning many years ago so I went back to my life experiance to find the right business. At 50years old I didn't want any more bosses. Anyways as you said go to E.I. I'm already collecting E.I at the tune of $1700.00 / month free free money! This is why it is taking me so long to launch my business in a big way. I have been sticking to word of mouth and under the table stuff. E.I is great but it's coming to an end.

50 is great. ride my mountain bike all summer long, work out at the fitness centre 3 days a week and people tell me I look years younger than my age. about ten years ago was in the mall with my daughter and an ex work mate of mine saw us there and he thought my daughter was my wife. I bet ted didn't figure I was that old/young. I'm too young to retire maybe someday I'll challenge any of you to a race because I never tire. p.s I just became a grandfather in january. I guess though if your old and rickity maybe you should pack it in. good genes signing off.

I guess you guys are all worn out. The truth is I don't find carpet or upholstery cleaning hard work. Did my roof last summer thats hard work. I also use my rotovac power wand most of the time and I have the Mytee 1003HV with the duel 3 stage vacs which stays on my van and I run it with a 6500 watt generator. have run 100' of hose with no problems. Also purchased a smaller unit off Ted to be used for high rise apartments. For me I hope this is only a 10-11 month business. I think I'll spend next january in murtle beach. hate the cold. see ya

I may have been out of the business for quite a few years but I truly don't remember this as being gruling work. I would have stayed with it if the money was better. I still remember the several hundreds of dollars I would hand over to Eatons at the end of the day. I made more in tips per day than my paycheck.

I think the guys that take care of themselves have an easier time at it. Me, I need to take off a few cheeseburgers and I would be more comfortable.   When I started my company about 16 months ago my sholders hurt but now they are fine. If you want a good gig head toward tile and grout cleaning.
