Well, the business is underway, and I've done a few jobs now. Everything has worked wonderfully so far. I guess all the training manuals I've read, videos, practice on friends' homes, have paid off. I realize that I have a long way to go but I do feel alot more confident now. I wanna thank those that have answered some of my questions over the last few months as well as all the other posts that have been a wealth of info.

One thing I've noticed though, is that when I'm done extracting, the slightly damp carpet is slightly sticky somewhat to the touch (is fine when it dries), but especially once I've touched the carpet and rub my fingers together. Is this normal ? Just so you know, the prespay is sprayed to specs on the jug, and, the instructions for the rinsing solution in my porty are also followed. I do use an antifoam in the rinsing solution(less than what they recommend which seems to work fine), and of course, I do an extra dry pass for happier customers. What do you think?

Who reccommended the defoamer? It sounds like you have studied the Easy Off Carpet Cleaning manual? Drop the defoamer. What do you do for unhappy customers? 2 extra passes? You should never apply the defoamer directly on the carpet. That's what I think?

Listen to Master Doug.

First and foremost get the defoamer out of the rinse water tank, this is causing the stickiness and will also make the carpet re-soil rapidly.

Also do an evaporation test on your pre spay chemical.  Put a small amount in a cup and when the liquid  portion has evaporated away, what ever is left is what you are leaving on the carpet.  If it is powder that is good, if its sticky you have your answer.

Hey, thanks guys, it's all I needed to know. It's not a defoamer but an anti-foam, same thing. I'll simply use it in my recovery tank, I guess. The prespray test is also an excellent suggestion. Thx.

I've seen some defoamers have instructions for adding it to the prespray, just for those situations where there's lots of preexisting soap in the carpet. Do you two recommend against those applications?

YES!!! Why even use defoamers? I can't remember the last time I ever used a defoamer. I think it was 1980???? Well? Along time age when the earth was green??

I agree with doug on the defoamer.. I haven't used any for many moons.

It is an issue with portys sometimes when your cleaning the bathroom or laundry rm and they spilt soap.

8oz bottle in your pocket, when it foams up and you lose vac, squirt some in the vac hose... Your all good.. well, till the next soap spill.................

Save all your duckies, don't buy nothing extra for your porty, Save for the TM you want.... That's what i did... And glad i did....:-)

Michael & Zed,

For those enormous foaming problems when someone has spilled a lot of detergent or you are extracting a carpet that has been spin bonnet cleaned for years you throw down a Crystal Powder Defoamer. Like you are feeding chickens. This then gets picked up with the extraction water and de-foams inside the hose before it reaches your soil tank where it could do damage.

The product is called Crystal Defoamer by Chemspec.
