It is called the race to zero, when you have enough morons trying to see who can get to zero profit first!

In the good old days only people with business sense and business education got into business but now any monkey can own a CC biz!

low ballers are fading out in our city. apartment blds won't deal with them any more. they would rather pay more and get a proper job. we just got a bld. where the guy before us charged 40 bucks for a 1 br apt we charge 60. they would rather pay that extra 20 and have clean right. more residential customers are getting wise to. imo low ballers never last.

nothing is impossable. it just hasn't been done yet.

I see more laminate and hardwood going into new homes. It's a trend that will last 10 years or so. People will get tired of it and go back to carpet.

No...carpet cleaning is still a good business to be in...yes, it seems that everyone is getting into the business...but not staying in it...low ballers come and go all the time...that's why there are always portable carpet cleaning machines available at any pawn shop...I have more business now than I had 5 yrs ago and I have seen low ballers come and go for 25 yrs...I started out as a low baller thinking that I need to be to get business...but I was lucky enough to meet the right people in this business that put me on the right path...ever notice that the "high priced" cleaners are the ones who stay in this business...just like any other business...

I agree with Rick/Magic....The market will fade out the shoddy operators . . I've been cleaning over 20yrs now and staying busy. The great cleaners get many referrals and they keep  coming year after year....

I did have a referral call yesterday.. She wanted a LR and Hall done and fix a couple cat puke stains.. I quoted $50.. and that my friend is on the low side... guess what she said .. " My mother highly recomended you BUT.. I'm gona check around for a lower price ! ! !

She asked if i could do it for LESS. . . I told her that was my min. trip charge.....

Haven't heard from her since ! ! !

I explained my cleaning procedure and what to watch out for if she decides to go with the lower priced guy.......

I think you should have offered her $50.00 to do the job. Would that have been better for her.

Some customers have no friggin' idea what it costs to run a business.

when someone says to me that are going to check around for a lower price, then I just forget them...I am not interested in anyone who wants a lower price...I will not lower my prices just because you can find cheeper than me...again, it's also the people you DO NOT CLEAN for that make you successful...

Some times I think that as Professional Carpet Cleaners we loose touch with reality... maybe you should have thrown in NO TAX or Some Free Deo.  Gotten the Business and made a friend....

I don't want customers I want a network of friends.....maybe she'll get you a few referrals at regular price...

or worse case

she gets you a few more cheapies...lol but maybe they get you some good business.... or maybe not...lol
