2 to 5 hours.  LOL!  No wonder you have no work.  I am getting dry times under an hour.  When I start using Hardballs Solvent Protector I could be at half hour dry times.  You need to improve dry times and you will gain more customers.  Give Greenie a call he can help you guys out.

Doug,

He has one of Rich Michniak's killer TM's. Nice units with LOTS of heat. As Rich is famous for saying....VAPOR STEAM BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And speaking of steam......

Steamey, if you want to cut your dry times drastically you only need to change a few things....first lose your 1 1/2" whip hose. Run 2" straight to your wand. Notice the difference that makes. Then, try a 2" tubed wand, it will make as dramatic of a difference as losing the whip hose did. Then get a holed glide another dramatic difference.  Next, check your system for restrictions. If you run an inline filter, chuck it. If you have one of those cylindrical pleated filters in your waste tank replace it or clean it really well and from now on cover it with a kneehigh pantyhose stocking. It is really easy and cheap to change, get rid of all other filters and resign yourself to washing out your waste tank once in a while. With just the single filter you will cut down restrictions and make a big difference on how much air you move through your machine. Lastly, invest a couple hundred dollars in a kunkle valve to replace your old relief valve. If you have the money, the killer set up is the electronic kunkle that David Wang sells, but they are pricey ($900 US).

Do these things and you will have maximized the performance of your unit. Your dry times will be cut in half, if not better, you will not have to work so hard, and you and your custy's will be much happier.

In your area, lowballers are rampant. You have to set yourself apart from the crowd so that you can justify charging more. Cleaner, drier carpets is a major selling point. If you don't think that getting carpet drier means getting them cleaner, you are wrong. Just remember what the water in your waste tank looks like...it's DIRTY. The more dirty water left in the carpet, the dirtier the carpet.

These fixes/ adjustments are easy and relatively inexpensive to do. Try them and let me know if you still feel 2-5 hour dry times are acceptable.

Take care,
Lisa

Oh yes, and if you REALLY want to move your TM to the next level without laying out the big bucks for a 5 or 6 series blower machine....get one of Nordic's vac boosters. They are NOT for porty's, they will increase the CFM's your unit moves allowing you to make longer hose runs and dry carpet faster. Ed Valentine makes one too. These are great additions to a unit with a 3 series blower, and even many 4 series can benefit dramatically as well.

Take care,
Lisa

Waldo: You heard wrong about Doug's dry times when he cleans. Doug has one of our SST hole glides on his wands now, and is drying the carpets very quickly in about an hour or two now. That is very good for living next to a lake which keeps the humidity there high year round. It is the equivilent of 30 to 60 minute dry times where you live.

Not getting the repeat clients may be more true in the GTA, where they have a heard enough time speaking English to tell you they want the carpet cleaned in the first place, but it is deffinatly not true in the small towns like Doug lives in. There for the most part the job is yours until you screw up on it, or prove through indifference that you don't care. Then you lose it.

Steamer if you cleaned my carpets and got them dry fast. I just might give you a tip.

Women have not got the time to wait for the carpets to dry. In fact before booking a carpet cleaner this is whats on their mind. How long will they be wet? and then she would have to work her schedule around the drying time.   It may not be no big deal to you but it sure is to her.

2 hours is fine. 5 to 12? No. There is no need of it, and once word of mouth spreads to tell them that it is not neccesary, they will demand better of those that work for them.

Me too Steamer. I have cleaned for over 30,000 residentials in my 27 years in this biz, and I can tell you the power that fast drying of your cleaning has. I was able to move my cleaning charge up from .10 in 1997 to .50/sq by 2001 simply cause I was able to dry carpets in well under 1 hr using a TM. Nobody using HWE extraction can do that here.

The Power-Dry system is coming to Toronto in a big way in 2005. I already have 5 companies that are waiting for installation in the spring there so that they can dry carpets in under 10 minutes. I told them that I would help them with the installs in April when I am down a week for a wedding in the family. 12 hour dry times will not cut it after I sell alot more of these into the GTA, and I will.

Well said John L, I just think the world is going nuts over time, are our lives that hecktic that we need our carpets dry in 10 minutes, we have red solar lamps in the washroom so we dry as we clean our ears, I opened a package of Pop-Tarts the other morning and it says put in toaster 1 minute.....or.......Microwave 3 seconds, do we need that other 57 seconds to do something else, Give me a break..........No wonder Doug needs a stress test...........or did the doctor rush you through that too Doug 'cause his cup of soup was ready.

I sure like having my carpets dry in an hour. My clients like it too. Maybe things are different here in California than in Canada, but the clients here are really impressed when you tell them it will be dry in 1-2 hours. They also go gaga over corner guards and the set of shoecovers I leave for them to use. They like the teflon "bumper' on my wand too because it doesn't mar the baseboards or furnishings or scratch the tile/stone/wood floors.

Take care,
Lisa

Lisa.............I saw your pic, and I'm sure your customers are not looking at you wand " Bumpers ", and they're probably just happy to see you bend over to install those corner guards too, and when you pull out those shoe covers, they probably think you're going to stay the night, and if you came to clean my carpets and I had you all to myself..........I'd probably go GAGA too.

Doug and Ken will you guys take off you perverts " DOUG ran away and bought a horse and moved to Ontario..........and KEN slowly skipped along on his way moved to Calgary and started making WANDS of his own.
