Carpets loaded with sugar and butter in a candied popcorn facility took 7 hours to do and it was over 5 thousand sqft top and bottom floor.  $50/hr.
Are you in a high paying business or are you just a self employed low paid grunt who thinks this business provides dignity?

Usually I charge $0.15 per sq.ft, 4500 sq.ft job takes me around 4 hours.
$0.15 X 4500=$675.00
$675.00: 4=$168.75 an hour.

You are in SoCal.  You have living costs that are greatly exaggerated compared to national norms.

Here in Oregon when the average combined household income barely reaches over $40k a year, where the cost of living makes the art of surviving a challenge, we do whole homes for $55-$99.  Most people here just ignore their carpets and furniture all together.  The native born Oregonian has about as much culture as a cannibal.  They try to avoid working all together to get free money for living and rent as low as $45 a month for a three bedroom.  The only reason they have kids is for the money and insurance.  This is truly the welfare state.  The only luxury cars here are in pictures and posters.

But no quakes, fires, long waits on the freeways trying to get home.  It has benefits although I will say I miss SoCal, just not constantly and strongly enough to ever go back.

These days John, I am surviving but it beats a job.  I make more in 3 hours than most of the workers around here get paid for a full day's labor.  Still, it is humbling.
