on a light beige rug. Any suggestions that don't include a knife or match? Thanks for the help.

I use Power House by Lindhaus out of Minnesota. It works many times on super tough stains with varnish, dye or ink type stains in the carpet. The only other thing is red out. Other than that its patch time or dye time. My other spotters (13 of them) wont touch that type of stain.
