My new machine is arriving tomorrow. I have a few interested people needing their carpets cleaned, and I am really confused on what to charge...ive seen posts where they charge $10-29 per room...how in the hell can you make a living on $10 per room? or advertising "deep discounted rates on carpet cleaning" my lord..

I am also curious on what you guy charge on carpet protection such
as Scotchgard....I rec'd this a few days ago, and been debating on
what to charge per room...

I am also curious if you guys know of any sites that sell cheaper
scotchgard...I got my for $50/gal plus shipping...it adds up...

Thanks for your help..
David

I knew a guy once that bought 200 head of horses then posted questions of how much to charge when he sells his horsemeat...............he was in business for about a month........because he also didn't know what to feed the horses..... so they ate and drank nothing.........now they are just rotting because he doesn't know what shovel to buy to big a deep enough hole.

You see.....if you don't do your homework no matter what you do..... guess what happens. Like the saying goes....." If you fail to plan, then plan to fail "

I can now honestly say this forum is not as active
as it could be...if the OP did better work on dumping
the trash...This forum could have some potential.

LOL.....Your wife wears the pants in your house, she's the man.....you're the woman looking to occupy all your spare time between dusting, and vacuuming.....hope she bought you a dishwasher to protect those dainty hands of yours. I was working on a milktruck in 1965 for 2.50 /day at 12 years old.....cause that's when I became a man.........one day it will be your turn.

As far as I can see all the money come out of your wifes a$$.....she is the worker bee.....you are the Queen bee..........if there is any money comming out of your a$$ it'd from those lonely guys at the gay bar slipping you a fifty from time to time.

I charge $38.50 per room ( 16m2 ) to pre vacuum with the Dyson then steam clean using a truckmount but the majority of my income is from water damage restoration. Whatever you do dont charge low or you will be working your ass off to make no money.

Only a fool would not lower their prices in a bad economy.....just make sure that the customer knows he is getting a deal and should take advantage of the bad times and that you're in the same boat as him, so by working together the customer can save and you can earn a living. IF YOU DON"T.....THE NEXT GUY WILL.

Call around and see what others charge. But if all you do is clean then be prepared to work hard. Cleaning is 50% of what i do , along with repairs and water jobs and dyeing and bio cleanup means i work smarter and not harder.

Only you know what to charge.  You have to know what it costs you to operate.  Regardless of what others charge that has no bearing on what either you need or what you can get?Guitar

Our economy in Australia isn't in as bad a situation as in the U.S. In the twenty years I've been in business I have never reduced my prices as I have built a business that does not do rental work which is where the price shoppers reside. My customers are very loyal and are in a higher income bracket. As I mentioned the majority ( 60% ) of my income is from insurance company supplied WDR work that has preset rates of pay and they always pay quickly. The guys that always seem to be lowering their prices here are the ones that operate in the lower end of the price scale. Having more than one source of income is a good idea as well as I also do pest control work and tile and grout cleaning.
