How do I cut and replace thick carpet? I have an apt complex account and the leasing lady wants me to cut out about a 2" * 15" section (big stain) right in the middle of the living room and replace it with a piece from the closet? Any suggestions?
Thanks
Doug

Humour?

That is something you appear to lack?

Don't do it if you have no training, unless you want to buy them a new room of carpet.

Don't do it if you have no experience in that, but still want to do here are the steps

1) Remove all debris from previous flooring, Includes small nails, bits of carpeting from where floor meets wall, dirt, etc.
2) lay your tackless strips.
3) Once this is done lay your padding.
4) Once this is done you can start with the carpet.
5) Measure the length and the width and cut the carpet. Use a utility knife and cut from the top allow extra 4 to 6 inches for trimming purpose.
6) Finish installation of your carpet with a stair tool and rubber mallet to push the edge of the carpet

I think this might be helpful.

Even pile grafting is tough in the middle of the room because of the difference in pile height. Can't you perform some stain removal or colour repair?
What kind of stain was it?

DOnt do it if you want me to get the account. Carpet patching is very easy with the right tools. A decent repair box will run you around 600.00 bucks.

A box of sharp carpet blades, get the strait edge blades , and a cushion back cutter. Cut the piece you intend to use for the patch ( from the back is better ) then keeping the nap in the same dirrection put on top of the stain checking for proper size. With the cushion back cutter simply trace around the patch and if done right lift out old piece and plop in new piece. The you will need a seaming iron and seaming tape to bind the patch useing a carpet trackter to smooth seam and press into the tape. Then you have a great patch.
