Doug good question,

It is as you see fit.  If you want to remove more dirt then you use one side of a damp pad and then one side of dry pad. 

If you know what is good for you get it dry as quickly as possible

My concern is the dry pad. Would it not cause any distortion or the likes?

Mr. Steamer:  That happened to me once at an ASCR convention many years ago.  I had just got my 800 and was at the Pro Chem booth with the powers to be talking about it for photo opt. Then when I was leaving this guy called me over and said hold this. Flash a picture and a write up of me and my Host machine. Make My Day.Guitar
