No, we have used WD 40 in a pinch when running portables. It puts a layer of oil on top of the water in the tank and stops foam from forming. It does work fairly well

Does the oil not stick to the sides of the tank.......and smell like hell.

Most of it drains with the tank. If you clean your tank out after every job, you have nothing to worry about. Everyone does that, right?

You should see some of the equipment that comes into repair........I wouldn't want those machines in my home.
