To remove rust use an acid based spotter and for the love of god wear gloves. Better yet call someone who can handle the situation properly.
Wd 40 is a sin on carpet. When stain removing always start with a solvent and work your way up the ph scale. But , I have found in most cases if a solvent won't remove it you are pretty much done. Excluding of course rust and general dirt. Urine stains, blood, red wine, coffee, water(browning), vomit and feces are specialty stains that need specific procedures and chems to cure. For example never clean blood with warm water. If you are not carefull you will set the stain and will have a daily reminder of how much of a bafoon you are. Gum = non volatile solvent. wax = non volatile solvent and warm water. Taking an iron to carpet is just plain stupid. Not worth the risk. Even if you use a cloth or paper bag. Tar = volatile solvent instant extraction or else. Red stains are hit or miss depending on the age and prior attempts of removal. |

You forgot to mention that anytime you use a non volatile it should be followed with a volatile and rinsed.

This does not do my business any good but Alcohol is a volatile dry spotter and used in many formulas.
