Hello

I have a couple of questions and would really appreciate some answers. I had carpet installed almost a year ago. I want to get it professionally cleaned. I have base moulding made from MDF...painted, of course...what type of cleaning method do you recommend?..(will steam damage the moulding). Also...I had my carpet installers carpet right up to a radiator cover I had built. I have removed the cover and put it back in place a few months ago. Now...there is about a 1/8" gap from the radiator cover to the carpet. Can carpet "shrink"..and what do I need to do to rectify this problem.

Thanks
Melissa

steam (HWE) per say will not damage the base board. What you need to do is put some tack strip around the edge of the rad then maybe just mabye the carpet may stretch the 1/8" necessary to fit properly. It is not the method that causes it is the operater that causes the damage.Guitar

If the carpet has a synthetic backing as most do today you should not see shrinkage.  Natural fibers can shrink.  Synthetic is more likely to stretch than shrink.  Better quality carpet installation techs will tell you to have your carpet re-stretched every three years.  Make sure to ask for power stretchers only as the tool used.  Excessive wear of carpet can be the result of carpet that slips ever so slightly under foot.
