They both are water based SG use to make Teflon. You would need a lot of the stuff they sell in a can to cover your carpet. They would also be putting it on dry carpet, works better when carpet is wet. The stuff you see in the DIY cleaners are also not as concentrated.

I use Teflon and Scotchgard but I also use Ultraseal on top it is a silicone base product
