I have been reading the posts on this site and you probably saved me an arm and a leg in franchise fees. I almost became a Chem Dry statistic. Now I have a humble Nautilus 200 and a lot more budget for marketing and gas. One question for you guys that I never see on any of the forums. I worked with carpet cleaners when I was a kid helping them move furniture and cut time for them by doing the pre spray and vacuum while they extract in another room. But as a sole operator I am not sure what to do about moving furniture. I am about average build and while skitters and EZ moves help, I don't know what to do about beds and big crazy things like grandfather clocks, bookshelves, and china cabinets. I just can't afford starting with a helper. If I still have my head above water in a year I will definitely get a helper well before I even think about getting a van and truck mount because I remember the hours I helped cut for the cleaner I worked for and he was only paying me peanuts.

And my hats off to all you portable only cleaners. When I bought the Nautilus and took it up and down stairs the first time I about had a heart attack. Previously I had only been around truck mounts. I am going to be broken or real strong by the end of the year. Gym membership cancelled.

We have been in business 32 years . at first we thought we would be smarter than the rest and move everything .
Dismantle beds move everything .......Never ever again . We explain things in this way . " just so you know upfront , in the bedroom areas you are charged for the entire room , but we only clean 100% of all VISABLE Carpet . We take out special tools and trim around all furniture . ......in the rest of the house we ask that you move all small furniture pieces such as lamps , nic nacks and ceramics , and end tables and coffee table onto a hard surface area . We do not move anything that has wires attached or contains glass items such as curios and china hutches , we trim around those the same as entertainment centers and gun cabinets . We DO move your couches chairs and love seats ahead and move them back and make sure they are raised from the floor with styro foam . " all carpets are groomed afterwards and protector applied if requested? It has worked great for many many years . But each to his own .
