Just looking for some feedback on your thoughts about shampooing carpets, in the old days it was very popular, however the shampoo was left in the carpet and nothing was extracted out and the quaility of the chems back then is certainly not as good as it is today--Todays carpet shampoos are much better and don't allow for rapid resoiling as they did years ago--So the question is--If one were to use a 175 rotary with solution tank mounted on it and using of course carpet brush on it-first shampooed the carpet, but then used an extractor to rinse and extract every thing out?? what are your thoughts on this method--back in the 90's and for 7 years i had my own carpet cleaning business and this is what i did--shampooed then followed with extractor and sucked it all out--It worked great, never came across a carpet i couldn't make look great no matter how dirty and nasty it was, always had repeat business and referals and stayed busy all the time.  Well i'm back in the business and pretty much do it like most everybody else--pre vac--pre-treat-agitate-dwell time, rinse & extract-- doing it this way works fine and results are very good, I have an mytee M5--rotova 360i with carpet brush head and standard head that comes with it, also have a 175 rotary with solution tank mounted on it along with carpet brush for it--However, I think going back to the way i used to do it with todays better more advanced chems I can do a much better job--any and all feed back anyone can give would be great weather it be good or bad   and thanks in advance to all who replay

The moment that you put a rotary bristle brush on a shaw carpet (and that's most carpets) you void your customers warranty.

See Shaw's Warranty

Stick with up-to-date systems, why step backwards?

It would be wise for a carpet cleaner to know all carpet warranties. Many carpet cleaners are deteriorating carpets and stripping off carpet protection because they think that the strongest chemical(s) are necessary.

Same as Ted said. Don't gamble, one claim can be the end of most small companies.

I have a Triple Hitter cleaning method for carpet seemingly beyond hope and the owners are not concerned about warranties in this case.

Shampoo
Rotovac
Encap with Bonnet

Generally, the carpets that need it had other things happen to them that voided the warranty long before you took a brush to them.

If that is the only type of cleaning you are doing go for it, however, your triple method should do an excellant job, problem is people that let their carpets get in that condition will not pay the dollars you will need to make it profitable. The best customers are the ones that maintain their carpets on a regular basis and do not need restorative cleaning methods.  If you want to make it in  this business you need to have all cleaning methods available.

Agreed - if in my area the average home price for a given neighborhood is under $250k in today's market, they are not people what can afford a healthy existence with the disposable income I need them to have.  Stanley does homes like the under-qualified all day.  I prefer to not work that hard.

But, I never want it to be said I don't offer a over-the-top package :)  For the right kind of money I will gas up that old jalopy they are driving.

I worked for a company that shampooed first the extracted with a porty. Worked fine in the 80's. Now it is out dated.

My second carpet cleaning job was at Millers in San Gabriel in 1977.

Carpet Shampooing is one of the most common and oldest carpet cleaning methods. The foam plus the chemicals extract the dirt from the carpet.
