We have just been starting on a delivery service here in Ontario that will pickup your area rugs, deliver them to a plant cleaner in Toronto that has been around since 1896, and then return them back to your office within two weeks. Cost to your customer is about $3 per square foot. You would make about $0.8 per square foot just for picking it up, delivering back and arranging the process! They get the best possible cleaning by professional experts in that field, and you get to make good money from it also. My company has been in business since 1988, all is insured and we have controls in place to ensure that all goes well.

This is designed for carpet cleaners throughout Ontario, and not for the Toronto area. Please let me know if this is something that sounds of interest to you. My email is meliorman@amtelecom.net

That is the way this business was before tacked down wall-to-wall in 1938.  Rugs were picked up in spring and dropped back off in the fall.  They lasted longer in those days.

How nostalgic.  Let me get back to the barbershop quartet.  Honestly, sounds cool.

?What the??? Don't you have area rugs in the US? Usually made of wool??
I am talking about regular area rugs (carpets) that lay on top of hardwood floors!( for those that were wondering lol)

Same thing I am talking about.  What DO you know about the history of carpet cleaning, cleaning equipment, chemicals, the transition from rugs to wall-to-wall, tacks to tackless, padding compositions?

I am not attacking you, but your defensive posture leads one to believe you either don't understand what you read or have a grasp of the topic.

I am not attacking you... What DO you know about the history...
My supposed defensive posture arises from the fact that I am trying something new and don't need some subjective stuff confusing somebody else that may be reading this for the original intent of the posting.
Sounded like you were talking about when carpets were hand sewn and not tacked down and could easily be removed from smaller rooms and taken outside to air. That is not what I was talking about and wanted to eliminate any confusion.
What DO you know about the history of carpets?
Why DO you get so defensive?

The guy is ignorant or thinks we are.
1.  He doesn't provide with complete information like company name, website, etc in his profile and he has had 1 1/2 yrs to do it.  No credibility, oh but trust him because he says so.
2.  His response proves he knows a piece or two of the total story making him the average consumer.  This is probably why he thinks he has a fantastic new offer.  But wait, there's more.
3.  I find him to be a joke as a panhandler.  He isn't willing to go sell this great fresh idea (well, that was what it was at end of the 19th century) to the owner of a rug.  No, he wants to try for a piece of the business the carpet cleaner busted his ass to get.
4.  He's a glorified courier service.  How grand.
5.  He must think carpet cleaners don't do their own rugs.  But isn't it a burden to have the responsibility of spending 100% of a sales dollar vs 27%.  And if the deal goes bad (rug is damaged or disappears as an example) who has their reputation on the line with the customer?

I have just erased my original response to this posting.

You are ignorant of who I am, and obviously don't like my idea now- even though on your first posting it was 'cool'.
I am not here to argue with you. All I was trying to do was get some input on what carpet cleaners- here in Canada- think of this idea.
And you even raise a couple of vaild points in your last posting. We have the answers for those questions also. If someone is interested and would like to know what we have planned please contact me. Not if you are from Oregon though please!

Don't fret meliorman most of them have no idea where Ontario is, or better yet how big it is. It is a good idea, however, not to sure if there is that much demand in your particular area.  A lot of the cleaners I know in that area clean their own loose rugs in their own shops.

Thanks Cleanex. I am planning on covering all of Ontario. I am one of those cleaners that has always cleaned in my own shop, but I know that immersion cleaning is the best method available to clean rugs. I can't afford the space for wash pit etc., and definitely can't afford fiscally the wash tubs and wringers. I was thinking that this way any carpet cleaner in Ontario has the ability to offer immersion cleaning- maybe not every rug that comes through you would want done this way. Maybe certain rugs for certain customers- those that don't mind paying $3 ft. for the best rug cleaning. And especially those with pets!
Appreciate your input.
