I would like to see how you guys would build a new company with $140,000 to invest into it.....from equipment to advertising.(mostly residential w/some comm.)
I will go ahead and take this time to say "Hi" and Im new here but not to carpet cleaning....I've been into it for 24yrs and about 4yrs ago sold out....big mistake! I had three vans running and also did air duct cleaning....it was a good company and I miss the workout with the good income, plus it's in my blood....I'm getting back into it and wanted to see what may have changed in 4 yrs and how you would reload a new company.
Thanks for your input.

Nope!....never signed one!
besides it was my brother who I sold it to and he has since moved the company to another state, And is doing very good with it.
So do you have any input on the actual question?
I have $140,000 and Im going to start up again ....Its what I do best and enjoy the most.
I would like to see how others would proceed to launch a new company from buying new equipment (what kind) to advertising (in what and how much) to hiring staff etc.

140 thou to invest ...and you're going to do carpet cleaning????
Why do you need that much money??
It's hard to give anyone directions on how to build a business.....things that work for me won't work for you.
whats your population like?
how many directories are there in your area?
what are you looking to buy??? portable or truckmount
more details

Yes Im going into carpet cleaning. I dont need that much money.
I didnt ask for directions .....just a simple question on how YOU would do it based on the $$$$ amount.
Population??? assume its in your area.
Directories??? assume its in your area.
Portable or truckmount??? assume its your choice.
KEY word here is "YOU"!
I left details out for a reason......just work with me on this.

First incorp the business...
lease 2 brand new trucks put no more down than $5000 on each
buy a portable
buy a low moisture machine ie cimex/op
buy a few blowers
to kick off advertise advertise advertise val pak, yellow pages, flyers, news paper
you need to have something going out at least once a month
make sure you have someone to answer your phones...from at least 9am-9pm
buy chemicals
put at least 90k back in the bank

Being you said you sold it to your brother I would be tempted to ask him for your old customer data base, starting with that I would write a personal letter to all the customers and lay pure honesty on them .... Prodigal Son style. You left.....you realized that you love the business of cleaning their carpets and want to know if they will give you a chance to prove your enthusiasm and rededication of your commitment to them.
The " I'm Back.........! but with new equipment and a new mission..... to be their carpet professional." As far as equipment. This is always subjective. but being you asked what I would do. I would buy a good refurbished Butler unit. Because I know the quality that Butler puts into their refurbished units first hand. Then build you business up one relationship at a time and if things take off.... Go new butlers or a Vortek if Enough Commercial Volume is in your business Mix . Just My Opinion ..... |
