I was helping some guys last night who use portable extractors 500-600 psi.
they clean with never lifting off the valve.
they love the results, clean super fast and have very happy commercial customers.

you guys ever not lift off the trigger?

Doug is right again 500/600 psi on a portable need small jets for that psi otherwise the pressure would drop to 200psi once they triggered the wand

I still bet they get stop marks that show as wicking on heavily soiled carpets.

if they are not getting it wet enough to clean how can they get wicking if you don't release the trigger how can you get stop marks?

Your moving fast...real fast. soap is in the tank....just a quick wet is all.....I don't do it but I've seen quite a few people do it that way.  There is no pre-spray so the carpet is not overly wet.  They spot the spots first...servicemaster does it this way

Stop marks because when pulling back they never actually extract the spray laid down before moving forward again.
When dealing with water damage restoration companies this is a very common problem. fixed many of them.

Those stop marks show up as browning on a lot of carpets. Dumb thing to do.
