there is always someone that will under bid you...

Quoting commercial jobs is like going on a job interview... you have to sell you..if they like you sometimes the price won't matter.

but like anything sometimes you don't get to present to the decision maker

Rule of thumb
If you get all the jobs you quote--your price is too low
If you get 70% of the jobs--your price is right on
If you get  less than 70% your price is too high!

Can not comment on your question as every part of the country is different , and prices vary, for this time of year in our part of the country the $325.00 price would be fair.

I would rather get all the jobs I quote............if the price makes the customer happy and I make money with that quote then I'm happy............I ca always up my price once they get to like me and my work

So you like to leave money on the table. In this business if you are too low you won't be around to increase your prices!

what you guys fail to understand it's really never about price...there is no such thing as the right price.  We have all lost business to someone who charges more we have all lost business to someone who charges less.

In some cases it's about who you know...

In some cases it's about the reputation of your company..

sometimes it could be your colonge.

First impressions are everything...and it starts way back at your first hello.

You are right Steamer, just got a job we had quoted against three other companies, lady told me after that they where going with us no matter, just policy to get other prices. They had heard about us and I guess it must have been good.

I think we rarely buy anything based on other factors other than price . A smart consumer/shopper will weigh all options on material goods.............but when it comes to the service industry...........IT'S ALL PRICE.

Let's face it...........clean is clean.............cut grass is just cut grass...................a car wash is just another car without the salt stains....................anything you can do yourself with minium effort and tools that can be rented...........is not rocket science .

Carpet cleaning is NOT a BUSINESS............it's just a better paying job than working pumping gas , or stocking shelves at Wal-Mart .

Material goods..I totally agree...but service is never bought just on price....I have had a lot of work done for me in my home and on my trucks.  Most time its all about trust...and comfort levels.

It's proven that most people will shop and use big named companies, because they feel that they can trust them... price has nothing to do with it.  No one wants to higher the cheaper fly by night.  Trust me I don't

Steamer..................nobody knows who the fly by nighters are until they fly...........and your post is bull...............you are the cheapest cleaner out there who works on your own trucks to save money , tries to copy chemical formulas to save a few  bucks , and penny pinch customers to try to make some extra beer money....................material goods is what people don't mind paying etra for.........................service is just a 2 bit high school drop trying to beat the system doing cash jobs while collecting employment insurance or welfare
