I'm thinking of getting into oriental rug cleaning next season. After taking the certification classes, what kind of investment am I looking at for equipment, insurance, etc.? I am thinking about it because I've had to turn down a lot of this business.
![]() What kind of money (per square foot) is there in orientals? Is it good business or just too much of a pain to even consider?
Any advice, info., whatever will be appreciated. Thanks

Some people are making a lot of money, but there is potentially a lot
more risk if you damage an expensive rug. Visit therughub.com, you will
find a lot of info on this subject. It appears the way to
substantial earnings is via building a mini plant with immersion area,
sufficient drying racks and by 'batch' cleaning.
For myself, I only clean cheapo area rugs, the type people buy at pottery barn and usually valued at less than 1,000 dollars or so. It's strictly appearance cleaning, local pick up and delivery, at my convenience, about a buck fifty per square foot. |

Doug, I'm sorry, not understanding the reference to the red board. Went over my head.
Mo fo You money, I clean with low moisture foam and a Von Schrader system, so I use their pre-sprays and detergents. Most of the area rugs I have cleaned are wool so I use the Von Schrader Blue Label {low ph} detergent and Prelim Pre-Spray. But these are high foam and would probably not be suitable if you are using hwe, bonnet or other method. |

I charge $1.00-$1.50 per square foot to clean wool and oreintal area rugs. I use hot water and pro's choice wool cleaner and I have never had a problem with it. Do it make money dont be scared.

Hello, you can try this method accepting repair and cleaning of Oriental rugs and Carpets. We clean and service Oriental rugs for many dealers, and can provide the same services to private customers. We've been in busines for many years, and have an excellent reputation in the rug trade. Visit our Rug Repair and Cleaning page here. The best way to keep a rug clean is to keep it from getting dirty in the first place. Removing outdoor shoes when entering the house (as people do in most rug-weaving countries) is a good idea if this accords with your lifestyle. Bare-foot or sock-foot traffic is much gentler to a rug than a hard outdoor-shoe sole (or spike heel), and leaving your outdoor shoes at the entrance to the house tracks in much less dirt.
Have your rug cleaned only when it really needs it. For rugs in some areas this will mean a yearly cleaning. Rugs in other areas can go several years and more without needing professional cleaning. You can use some tips from here . http://optionspluscarpetcleaning.ca/home/carpet-cleaning-kamloops/ |

Make sure you protect yourself with insurance. Those rugs are very very expensive and people cherish them like there kids.
