I got a call the other day for a estimate for cleaning several old, very old actually braided rugs, not heir looms thank god, and a Jute area rug. I have never seen one and have found that it is the material used for burlap bags. Has anyone evr delt with this material before. I think i should stay clear of it. What do you all think.

Jute has not been used for sometime. Check the stability of the jute. It it crackles just be a little more cautious. Use a little water as possible keep the ph down attempt to speed dry to avoid browning as jute is a natural fiber. If you have a rack clean the rug turn it over to dry with the face down this will allow the jut to wick into itself and not to the surface of the carpet. The braided rugs should not be a problem are they ovals and are the reversable. Be carful as braided rugs should be handeled with care when wet. I have probably confused you by now. Maybe one of the experts on the board will be more assistance to you.

Thanks Doug, As far as the wicking and drying the Jute upside down, are you saying that rather than wicking to the face of the fabric, it will wick back to the base sort of speaking, maybe i just said exactly what you did. I will be using a wool safe pre spray for the braided rugs and the Matrix all fiber rinse for extraction, is this ok???? |

The only safe advice in my opinion is to use a dry compound like host. Jute shrinks and bleeds brown very easily. It will also dry splotchy sometimes if cleaning solution is not applied evenly. |

Grab a 5 gallon pail of water, about a pound of Tide, a good scrub brush(Stiffer the better) and your shop vac and your all set up. Of course, I don't get much repeat business and I've got a mound of lawsuits pending. |

look on the bright side...if you screw up a jute back, you can always buy it from the customer and roll it up and smoke it...it'll be less expensive than the going rate on the streets these days...LOL
