I'm not sure if a fire could have made them look good. Besides, at that time, i was friends with the building director and had to use his equipment, no opp for better equipment. And i think the walk behind was a 100 psi, no great, but i wouldn't recommend them based on my experience with them.

Ya know, I clean several large accounts with my walk behind and have NO problems. The browning is :

A) Overwetting

B) Cleaning agent too alkaline.

c) Jute backed.

d) Operator inexperience

P.S.- A 175 RPM floor machine with a decent cotton or polyester pad(moistened) and a light prespray acid side would have helped tremendously.

Your opinion is noted....

Regardless, the walk behind machines are less effective based purely on their specs (psi, suction, etc.). ...

To get back to topic, Roy, I'v been researching quite a bit lately and depending on your money siutation, i've found several options. What types of jobs are you doing? commercial or residential, primarily? more than one floor buildings or homes? looking to do tile/grout also? If you'd like, i can send you the information i have found useful within the last two weeks of researching.

I was trying to stay under $5000 for a portable. Having a pickup truck, the truck mount wasn't and option, because it would have to come out regularly. I'll tell you, Ed Valentine, who posts on this board, has some impressive machines at very reasonable prices (not a plug) and he seems to be very helpful in offering information and references. You may want to private message with him directly.

I do not disagree, they are certainly more powerful. My only concern was distance, what's the range from the truck before you start losing suction or pressure from the pump? I've seen specs for 150' hoses that say no loss, is that true?
