I'm looking to get away from the everyday grind of Carpet Cleaning, and I'm looking for some reliable employees.  People that will come to work everyday and do a great job everytime....

should I pay them in percentage??? how much??? hourly????

Basically How do you keep employees happy??? drug plan... benefits???

If you're are an employee or an employer what works best for you?

Mr. Steamer: Personaly I think a strait hourly thing in this business is wrong. There is no insentive if they get paid the same for fighting as they do for marching.   Hourly + commission based on what they can do. Any redoes is done at their expense, and they must redo them.  With just hourly you may not always get what you pay for.  Just commission is good if all the jobs are a good size. You know yourself what a day of piddle jobs can make someone.  I better quit. Wht the hell does a man in a one horse town know about hireing a few good men. (Sorry Diva or Women.)Guitar

Greg:  If you are going to pay strait hourly then be prepared to pay overtime for weekends and night calls.  Be prepared for the coffee shop syndrome, everyone is entitled to break, mabe even having a coffee and muffin at the customers home after the job.  Just a few things to consider when going hourly.  Like I said that is one of the pit falls when you get paid the same for marching as you do for fighting.  Since there is no sentive to make extra money,  why bother doing the extra couch or bedroom while I am here.  I migth just as well have a coffee it's almost quiten time? Or maybe I will just do it for cash???????Guitar

Steamer,

From where I sit it appears it will never work. Even if money motivates them. No one wants to tell their friends or mother-in-law they are cleaners. Yuk.

Most employees I see steal your business and start their own show. Fortunately for you most fail. Most people I know get out because of an employee problem.

Enough negativity from an old fart. Let's hear from a positive young up-start. Just how do they overcome this problem and meet it as a challenge.

Hey at ServiceMaster (not going to say which one) they get 34% and there's guys who have been there 10+ years.

There is a job for everybody you just have to be patient and you'll find guys who want to work for chump change.

Just because YOU wouldnt work for $15.00/hour does not mean somebody else wont.

I see people working at Tim Hortons for years and they start at $7.00/hour.

If you want to get rich, you have to pay people a wage that you yourself would never work for.

I have a friend who owns 27 stores...he his a multi millionaire and he has about 200 employees who all make less than $9.00/hour IN TORONTO!

I think I finally understand.... hire no one... forget hiring... because I've tried all this... carpet cleaning is a demanding profession... it takes a lot to stick with it....

no matter how much you pay a guy on friday... you might not see him saturday morning
