As some may know, I am in the midst of starting my own carpet cleaning company in Florida... I am working with a guy from the Small Business Administration, and he requires a business plan. Now for most companies this would be easy... however this is a type of call on call basis... as well as a commission basis...So I could really use some help here..... As many of you already have established carpet cleaning companies, I imagine someone out there on this forum has a business plan around collecting dust. So please help me out here and send it my way...... My thanks will be of the upmost gratification. |

Doesn't your SBA guy have a list of resources to help you write a plan? If you retain a good business accountant for tax planning, s/he'll likely be able to advise you very well.

Listen man you have to do a little research... Criteria change everyday. Getting someone elses business plan isn't a great idea.
It sounds like you looking at getting some grant/loan money to start. The best thing is to go in and talk to your bank/loan officer to find out what they are looking for in a business plan. If you are not up and running all you really can do is make projections...show how you are going to allocate your funds. most banks are looking for a five year projection.. basically you have to break everything down for them. I would send you a copy of mine....but I never did one for this business I used my own capital to start. It looks best if you get it done by a Chartered Accountant. For god sakes don't do it yourself. If your using an accountant make sure he stamps it, so the bank will take you seriously. He will know how to break it all down for you and make it look professional. Thats the only advise I can give you good luck Edited by MR. STEAMER - 01/January/2008 at 8:58pm |

thanks... the guy from the SBA I think wants to see if I take this seriously. So he wants to see what effort I will put into this myself. Then give me direction on where I need serious fixing... I wasn't looking to use someone elses business plan, but use it as a general idea, and create one from there. I know what business is like here, and times are great for a small business owner like myself (soon to be). I know what advertising I will do. And my research is daily. I know for a fact that I will be using nothing but a pro-chem. And a used van to start with. My loan will be for $40,000.00 which is enough to get the van, truckmount (both used), chemicals, pc, programs for pc, 0lettering, taxes, licenses, city and county approval, credit card machine, and all paperwork, as well as everything I need.... to put it simply, here is a list of things already typed out, and ready to go.... And I am aware of the everybody gets some forgotten things..... there are no iicrc classes on the list which I will take the carpet cleaning, upholstery, and tile classes. just to start with.... later I will dwelll on the flood certification. at which time I will purchase all of the air movers, and zip walls, and dehu's I will ever need. so here is the short list.
Carpet Cleaning Van - $9,000.00 Pro-Chem carpet cleaning machine - $14,000.00 Installation of machine - $500.00 Chemicals - $1,000.00 Carpet Wand - $450.00 Tile Wand - $600.00 Furniture Wand - $249.00 Hose Reel - $352.00 Solution Reel - $277.00 Solution Line - $240.00 Vacuum Hose - $320.00 Lead Line - $28.00 Hose Connectors - $32.00 Couplers (steamline) - $78.00 Lettering for Van - $400.00 Fax Machine - $100.00 Phone - $40.00 Computer - $400.00 Program for company - $100.00 Paperwork - $800.00 Advertisement - $1400.00 License - $500.00 Incorporation - $2,000.00 Filing Cabinets - $200.00 B&G's X 3 - $800.00 Tax - $1,700.00 (TOTAL = $36,106.00) this is just a start, as I can't post in the YP until oct. which here is a well worth plan, unlike where Mr. Steamer is located. A 1/4 page ad will almost overwhelm me with business....... but for now, hitting the pavement, going demo's in malls, and setting commercial backups will be the priority.
While I only have 1.5 years experience behind the CC industry, I know what it undertakes to start a business, as I started a pest control company with my father. worked with it for 4.5 years, and went onto doing this for Stanley Steemer. The PC company still remains, and is doing well......Now I know that Stanley Reemer is a horrible name around here, and I assure u the only things I learned from this company were how to push a wand, and sell things to people, and what SG, and enzymes do.
Everything else I have learned from an (unknown) person who has been in this business for 30 years. However I must admit that I have learned quite a few things from this board. Also for all of you that do large commercial jobs.... I wanted your opinion on this device.... looks interesting, and I think it could be useful.http://www.zipper-it.com/

A business plan that does not include a study which supports why YOUR community needs ANOTHER carpet cleaner really is first class garbage. Your business plan starts with a demographic breakdown. Is it your idea that you can get through this by copying off someone else's assignment?

If you live in a largish city, there's always room for another carpet cleaner. It's just a question of making the phone ring, which brings up marketing. Allocate more money for marketing and devote time to a real marketing plan. Carpet cleaning work is easy and putting together a system is fun, but making the phone ring is the most challenging and important job you have.
