I was wondering if anyone has experience with cleaning carpets made from recycled plastic?  Think they use recycled bottles, not sure.  Material is called PETG I think.

This is the first job I have ever had with the new fiber material and I wondered if HWE will work, what chemicals are best, do we treat it as Nylon?  Or is it more like polyester?  In fact are they really using it to make fibers or as a synthetic backing material?

I would appreciate an education on PETG.  I remember Sherman Guffy saying something about it last year at a Portand Oregon seminar but I think it was in reference to the carpet manufacturing industry going Green.

Polyester. It's junk. I cleaned one in the lobby of an apartment building. Within a few months of installation it had traffic lanes worn into it

Loves oil this polyester.
Heat, good co-solvent or micelle prespray will eat it up. It will resoil fast.
Nature of the beast.

That is what has me worried.  There is too great a chance of damage to the carpet by cleaning it.  I might just go Green highly diluted and hope the combination of a wand and rotovac only one the worse areas gets the job done.

I know I am going to hate that job.

Then again, I have carpet shampoo and an old Hild.  Might go with the old way of cleaning polyester and just shampoo the turd.

I cleaned it with regular chemicals.  Had to use a Rotovac in a few spots.  Cleaned up quick.  It was green, fairly clean and 6 years old.  No kids but 2 well behaved dogs.  They were happy and I was too.

I warned him about that too.   When it does I hope he sees me as more credible.  And I sure hope I get to clean it again. <GRIN>

"Built in obsolescence"  is the  phrase used in the auto parts trade years ago.   The more PETG carpets you can specialize in doing, the more service contracts you can sell I think.

Unfortunately, getting crappy results consistently is a real let down after a while

Yeah, I have one customer who is convinced she is allergic to everything.  She has me back 3 times a year to clean her carpet with a Rotovac and straight hot water.  Looks like crap as the oily dirt keeps building up.  I want her husband to take her away from 2 days and have me over to do the job right with Green chemicals.  If I rinse it and then do it again with nothing but hot water everybody should be happy.
