Steamer...........I had up to 5 truckmounts, made alot of money, spent alot of money, but the bottom line was I never really made any money........it was just a game of catch up from season to season..........The only real money I made was the cash my guys brought in and the odd cash job I did myself...................
My previous post was not about advertising but rather a concept to get your name out there for FREE to attract new customers, the free-be's are just a marketing ploy.......the yield from that ploy is endless contacts.
When I did that in the 80's I met people in high positions who hired my company just because I was a nice guy doing things for charity , I also donated 10% of profits to needy organizations .
Advertising is a great tool, ........so is a mitre saw........but if you don't know how to use those tools...............They are useless.

Sorry NR free carpet cleaning sets off RED FLAGS for me... In my life time I have won soooooo much free trips free tv's free sex
but you can bet I paid for it in the end DOUBLE TRIPPLE...
When you say FREE people say WHATS THE CATCH.....
I run more fun ads....food passes... movie passes...
Right now until X-MAS I'm running $40 Fridays...Steam Clean any one room for $40.....only on Fridays
These kind of things make it fun for the customer and it doesn't set off the red flags...
Give away till it hurts after they pay full price for your cleaning.
I look at it this way once free always free.... you never want to give your service away for free just to spread you name..
I would never want to be known as the FREE GUY

nightrider, i feel very bad now cuz you guys say i paid away more then what you guys spend on advertizing.
but, i have no choice... that is the price here, and they dont give more discounts. (believe me i tried) i look for alot of way to advertize my new business. the only magazine that send out books evry week is the magazine that im using. im not a rich guy and not a lack of brains but i saved money to start my business. i came here to learn new things about diffrent ways to advertize my new business. and i hope you can still help me with that cuz you have more experience. the idea with the charity organizations sounds good, but how do you know that after i cleaned them the carpet for free the talk about that on TV, RADIO OR WHATEVER..? |

STEAMER WHAT IS IT THAT YOU ALWAYS MISS THE POINT.
Forget the word FREE........People are not getting their carpets cleaned for FREE..............They are making a donation to the charity, at most time triple what you would have normally charged them to clean their carrpets.
The money goes to a good cause, you get the reconition for supplying the material/labour from the goodness of your heart.
You receive a receipt from the charity up to $ 1000.00/week for tax purposes.
Trole4us...............T.V - Radio - Magazine and other advertising is all done in advance..........YOU ARE A SPONSOR OF THE CHARITY.
Steamer / Trole4us..........Is this a little clearer.
Trole4us.....Sorry if I come accross insulting, I just get pissed when I see people get mislead by advertising.

Troles4us, I have one small ad in the newspaper ($350 a month), I have this distributing company to drop off doorknob hangers every 4-6 months or so in nice neighborhoods ($175...If I remember correctly for passing out 2000 hangers), And I give out Spotters to every client. Thats about it.
It was REALLY tough at the beginning...But, just keep at it and youll be fine.

One cheap form of advertising I am thinking about ...is getting people to do sales for me. Here's my idea ...I will go to the owners of all the local maids sevices that dont offer carpet cleaning and tell the owner I want to set up a refferal program where his employees can make a little commision to help boost thier paycheck and he will get a small cut as well. I'll try to convince him to let me come to one of his employee meetings and give a "class" in how to sell my service in a way that will make them a little cake.
If anyone wants to shoot this idea down or expand on it, I'm all ears.

Steamer.........I guess that explains why you are still working as a Sears Bitch and not on your own like a real man................What can I say.
I had 5 trucks & 22 employees at one time including my maintenance contracts , I did alot of charity organizations and Spectrum Canada & Perma - Clean Carpets were a sponsor 7 years in a row for the Telethon of Stars which gave me 24 hours of air time on T.V & 15 hours on 2 major Radio Stations ( French & English )
All this to say to everyone........................IT WORKS and I can show you how to do it.

This year I have given about $2000.00 of 50.00 Gift certificates to people
who are throwing benefits for someone who is ill or what have you. The gift certificate cost you maybe $2.50 to print on your computer , they are sold at silent auction where friends and family of the individual bid to purchase your gift cert. ( we ask that they have a 25.00 Minimum Bid ). Money goes to the person in need. and you get a new customer with a 50.00 Gift certificate. I have received some good high end customers with $350.00+ jobs and referrals. It has been good and you also look good to the people who know you helped a friend in time of need. WiN !! Win ! Win Minimum investment. Good PR. Small Risk. Good Potential. I will track them and their referral with my Castlebrook Software and continue to build from there. P.S. Expect over half the people " never " redeem the coupon.... it is either lost, or expired or whatever. no direct lose to you. This isn't start up strategy here but a low cost tip for additional business for anyone in this business. Edited by danmarck82 - 31/October/2006 at 10:16pm |
